k20 and emissions

how many people here have had problems passing emissions after having a k20 engine swap in. I'm curious about this one, it'll help me in my decision about leaving the d17 and giving it a little turbo boost or going with a k20. Also, do all the civic ex coupes have the vtec-e engine in them?

Re: k20 and emissions

I'm the owner of a new car with a K20A engine/trans with Hondata software. My DMV requires full OBDII compliance to register the vehicle. Can this be done? Does anyone specialize in this on the west coast?

Re: k20 and emissions

Help. I live in Nevada and just purchased a new Ariel Atom with a K20 engine/trans. Despite doing research prior to the purchase, I've found it won't pass an OBDII test. Are there any solutions to this problem? Any help would be appreciated.

Re: k20 and emissions

All its going to take is one time to give you a really bad day Green. Second why would you get pulled over so many times and even admit to that? Honestly man it doesn't make you seem cool.

Back to topic, all I think the smog test is the Catalytic converter and 02 sensors. If those work, then you're golden. FYI keep the cat on, you'll never get much gains from taking it off anyways.

Now timcking, the K20 should be OBDII compliant. Are you picking up certain CELs? If so which ones are they?

Re: k20 and emissions

I don't know what CELs are, but here's a summary of the emission inspection printout:
Misfire: Completed
Fuel System: Completed
Comprehensive Component: Completed
Catalyst: Not Supported/Enabled
Heated Catalyst: "/"
Evaporative System: "/"
Secondary Air System: "/"
Air Conditioning System: "/"
Oxygen Sensor: "/"
Oxygen Sensor Heater: "/"
EGR System: "/"

The MIL Status: OFF and the Number of Codes: 0

After further inspection, it was apparent to me that despite having an OBDII connector, the car is not equipped with a second oxygen sensor downstream of the cat, and it has no evaporative emission system components (vents to the atmosphere).

Thanks for responding. Any help/advise would be appreciated. It's an Asian K20A engine/trans.
