B16A2 Swap
B16A2 Swap
So theres a million threads out there about swaps, but i wana know particularly if the b16A2 would be good to do a complete swap into my 2004 Civic DX (Automatic). I know the engine would run around 1500 or so but im not sure about the labor. Is an engine swap as easy as it really sounds or will it in the long run hurt my vehicle, because i really am considering it right now. Any help or info needed
Re: B16A2 Swap
from what I understand with a b series into a civic the hood will not shut so unless your going to run without a hood it's pretty much impossible to do that I don't believe that they have mounts made for a b series into an em2

Re: B16A2 Swap
Don't you have to swap an engine that's the same year or newer to keep you street legal? If so, the B series isn't an option... You could go w/ a K20 or a K24, but they're both more than you've budgeted.
Re: B16A2 Swap
You can do a B series swap but it will be a huge amount of work and will never be smog legal. nobody makes kits for it, you will have to fab them. The shifter assembly will have to be retrofitted. The electronics will have to be retrofitted. The hood WILL close just fine. Unless you have a burning need to do a B-series into a 7th gen I would strongly recommend against it.
IMHO just do a K series and be done with it.
I did this a few years back. I am not sure but it may be the only successfully completed B swap out there. I heard of a few others trying but never saw any pics of finished units.

Re: B16A2 Swap
haha nice man thanks for the help, **** tht K swap is pretty expensive, what do u htink is the cheapest i culd get an a2, iv seen the Type R's, which go for 6,000. Yeah i dont got tht much haha
Re: B16A2 Swap
theres only mounts for k20 and k24 and their 1 of the best honda engines ever made, so go with that its worth it. and u have to put a newer engine than ur car.
Re: B16A2 Swap
Oh yeah and one last thing, since my car is an automatic, would it convert to a manual cleanly process because i want the k20a2 6-spd, and would like to have a stick shift. I just dont want it to look retarded from the conversion. Also is theyr any gauges that would match the k20 and would fit in an 04 civic because i dont even have an rpm gauge right now haha. Do you need K-pro too?
Re: B16A2 Swap
Oh ok, since my car is an automatic right now, would the K20A2 convert the manual cleanly, including clutch, and shifter? I just dont want it to look retarded because it doesnt look like the shifter would fit right into the automatic section. Also are theyr any gauges out there accurate to the K20A2 engine for my 04 civic because right now i don't even have an rpm gauge haha.
Re: B16A2 Swap
you buy it all. clutch pretty much bolts on. you buy a new center console piece and the shifter pops right through. you do need kpro. with all the kits out there, its almost plug n play in like gods scale
Re: B16A2 Swap
If by the "AEM Civic" you mean my personal racecar that is partially sponsored by my employer (AEM) and by "you helped" you mean "you did the vast majority of the swap yourself in your own garage, where the above picture was taken" then yes, I helped.
I am honestly surprised that this question keeps coming up 4-5 years after I thought it was put to rest. There really is no reason to go with a B series engine in an EM2 anymore (if there ever was). When I started the swap in 2002 K-series engines were simply not available on the used market yet and if by some grace of god you found one it was easily $6K. There were no speed parts yet, nothing. While everybody knew that in the next few years (2004-2005) the K-series would topple the B series as the reigning champ in Honda motors, it had not happened yet.
Also, we were doing a dedicated race car. no smog worries. a full stand alone so no electrical worries. all we had to do was get it to physically fit and fab up a rod shifter setup.
I might just do a thread on the buildup on the car, just to put up some of the fab photos from the build and to document the swap.

Re: B16A2 Swap
Yeah i know thts way too much work, i wana trade up for a 2000 Civic Si. do you think 80,000 miles is alot for that car, my car's got like 55,000 but i can still sell it for a good resale value right now
Re: B16A2 Swap
if its a straight trade for ur car and the civic si, i say do it but get some money on ur end.
Re: B16A2 Swap
Yeah the Si, is listed at 9,985.00 right now. I could proly get at least 11 grand for my car. I just wana make sure that tht car is in good shape because i don't wana regret trading up my car
Re: B16A2 Swap
ya get it checked out first for sure, then ask for some money plus their car. u can get way more for ur car
Re: B16A2 Swap
