Apexi N1 Catback Exhaust Question
Apexi N1 Catback Exhaust Question
is this worth the price?
http://losangeles.craigslist.org/sfv/pts/585010097.html
was wondering if this is a great deal. On procivic.com, it's listed as $490.00 +tax. and this is $300 straight up. should i jump on it/
also, i'm a newbie in cars so how easy is it to install? and how much would it cost to have somebody install it for me? and where would i go to get it installed LOL? my wild guess is a body shop?
also, the previous owner of the car made the piping bigger and it makes a very annoying, rattling noise when people sit in the back. Would buying this catback system replace the whole piping?
I'm thinking about just buying a short ram intake and maybe this catback exhaust. Do I need after market headers too? I'm not going for power, just looks and sound. Would it be smart/reliable to just add these two products to my car?
thanks for taking the time to read and maybe answer my very newbie questions.

Re: Apexi N1 Catback Exhaust Question
as a matter a fact that is a great deal for that exhaust. in my opinion i think this is the best kind of muffler for our shop. its very easy to install you just need 4 jack stands and one jack and some tools. but if you want it professionally done it would cost about $80. well thats how much i got mine for because i didnt have the tools back then. but its a great price and you would need to go to either a body shop or a muffler shop... hope it helps.. and you can get an intake or headers if you want. its mostly for sound rather then power
Re: Apexi N1 Catback Exhaust Question
Intake: very easy
Cat-back: easy and if you want to go the unsafe route you can do it with a jack and a wrench
To answer your questions though: I wouldn't jump on that, (maybe already answered) any place that works on cars can do it (if they are dicks and you don't know what your talkin about start reachin for your pockets), cat-back replaces from right after the exhaust manifold, aftermarket headers not needed and aftermarket intake adds gas mileage (so probably a good idea either way).

Re: Apexi N1 Catback Exhaust Question
thanks eggot.
I'm thinking of just getting a aem or injen sri, then getting that exhaust. maybe costing me around 500.
do you guys recommend headers? or would it sound pretty nice with just the intake/exhaust setup? i'm not trying to being a ricer now haha. i just want a fun ride.

Re: Apexi N1 Catback Exhaust Question
oh thanks 7threbuilt.
so you just recommend intake and exhaust? I don't think i want to spend another 300+ on headers
my friends are willing to help me put in the intake/exhaust for no charge, but not sure if they would do a good job. They are pretty knowledgeable about cars, so I hope they know what they're doing haha. It there any risks I should be aware of when installing an exhaust?

Re: Apexi N1 Catback Exhaust Question
Exhaust is real easy, just make sure to have gaskets in correctly (very hard to screw up) and make sure the bolts are tight. Headers aren't really worth anything unless your planning on a good bit of engine work. I think that your best bet is cat-back along with the intake.
Re: Apexi N1 Catback Exhaust Question
thanks for the advice REBUILT. I think I'm going to do the set up in about a month or so.
And is it possible or is there any way to get a 'blow off valve' sound on a civic without a turbo? hahaha it sounds so cool
And after installing the exhaust/intake, would there be any extra maintenance that I would need to do besides changing oil?
Also, what are the common tune-ups for civics and at what mileage? Sorry again for asking newbie questions hahaha
thanks again REBUILT.

Re: Apexi N1 Catback Exhaust Question
the only maintenance i do that you are missing is cleaning the filter. our engine bay is not covered all the way so it gets always dirty. well in my opinion. but i try to clean my intake filter around every 7000 miles. but other than that just the oil change..
i do not think you need headers. headers seem to be a waste. i bought them for around 300 and i dont notice any difference. i dont even have a carb sticker for that damn thing and its a dc sports. i guess for my year they f'ed everything up. and that boost thing only good for turbo. that blow off noise is the pressure released by the turbo, which makes that cool noise.. hahah

Re: Apexi N1 Catback Exhaust Question

Re: Apexi N1 Catback Exhaust Question
Hey guys...
I was wondering how I would verify if everything is legit on this catback exhaust http://losangeles.craigslist.org/sfv/pts/585010097.html.
How would I know it's authentic and not some type of scam?
Also, the previous owner of my car said it will only fit if the piping is less than 2 inches. What does that mean? And he is correct? Sorry if I'm missing information.
Thanks in advance

Re: Apexi N1 Catback Exhaust Question
the previous owner is apparently an idiot..
My civic is turbo with 2 1/4 inch piping all the way back with magnaflow catback. BOV "noise" is rice on anything other than a boosted car and somebody will prolly slash your tires or break a window or something if you get one of those poser setups with the loud speaker and crap.
Header is not needed, the only one that showed decent gains on the D17 was the DC race header which is not street-legal in Cali.
Intake and exhaust are fine for your car. Both can be swapped out in a couple of hours with hand tools, a jack and a set of jackstands. Very easy job.
and just out of curiosity, are you looking at the stainless version or the mild-steel one?

Re: Apexi N1 Catback Exhaust Question
umm..http://losangeles.craigslist.org/sfv/pts/585010097.html
Whatever that one is...it looks like a great deal. Retail is around 500.
Well, the previous owner changed the pipe so I don't know. Every time someone sits in the back seats, it makes a really annoying cackling noise.
Say the exhaust doesn't work, what should I do? Or will the exhaust fit no matter what?

Re: Apexi N1 Catback Exhaust Question
that's my point, the shiny one is stainless, the dull one is mild-steel. which one are you trying to buy? and what do you mean doesn't work? it's a piece of pipe, either it fits under the car or it doesn't. you shouldn't have any issue with our cars until you get around 3 in or so, which you don't need cause you're not turbo. and the rattling you're hearing is probably the exhaust just vibrating against the suspension when it's compressed from the extra weight. you can probably loosen the bolts and move some stuff around for a little more clearance. crawl underneath and take a look, you should see marks where the exhaust is rubbing, either on the suspension/car body or on the exhaust itself if it's been doing it long enough.
Re: Apexi N1 Catback Exhaust Question
i know your link to the exhaust has expired, But did you end up buying it?
Stainless Steel doesn't rust and i believe it's lighter.>>obviously better
APEXi N1 exhaust only comes with Stainless Steel muffler

Re: Apexi N1 Catback Exhaust Question
yeah idk if i would buy exhaust without some kind of lip or body kit on a car. the huge muffler just looks outta place naw mean. did you end up buying your intake dude?
Re: Apexi N1 Catback Exhaust Question
For the intake bro ebay. You cant go wrong its a pipe thats bent and shaped exactly as need be and comes witha filter. The install is plain and simple. SPending an extra 150-200 bucks on a brand name intake for the same gains doesnt make sence unless your the "has to be name brand kinda guy".
Re: Apexi N1 Catback Exhaust Question
True, since my pockets arent pits of endless money I rather spend that money on gas to actually make shore I can get where I want and food to keep me living
LOll.

Re: Apexi N1 Catback Exhaust Question
Yeah...I got a GREAT deal from oino from this forum.
He gave me a aem short ram without a filter for free, but then
I wanted to buy his aem v2 intake for $150! So he gave them both to me for $150! (he's selling his car and i locally picked it up) and (he got his aem v2 for free from AEM)!
The aem v2 sounds sooooooo nice!!! i love the way it sounds after i turn off the car, the hissing sound! ahhahahaha
I figured I not buy the exhaust because:
1. I don't want my car to stand out and be jacked or broken into
2. I don't want to pay for an expensive alarm system
3. I don't want to get pulled over by pigs
