2006 civic SRS SENSOR

Hey all

ive got a 2006 civic it has a air bag light on. I had the codes pulled and it’s calling for a new front impact sensor. Wondering if the sensors are plug and play or will I have to program ECU or anything after replacement.

Re: 2006 civic SRS SENSOR

Which sensor? There's more than one (about 7 total in the car)
What's the fault code?

Impact sensors are plug and play.

You may want to inspect for being partially unplugged or damaged wiring before just replacing

Ok Thanks for that
I had the codes pulled at shop earlier today while it was hooked up on scanner and he said it was was the right side sensor, 42-11was the code I believe, Before I brought it to the shop and paid 50 bucks to have codes pulled I checked all the obvious easy stuff, like connectors to ensure everything was secure and for possibly damaged harnesses and didn’t see anything. So it likely a faulty sensor that needs replacing.

There was actually 2 codes one was the front right impact sensor and the other was for passenger occupancy seat switch. I did a bit of research on that one and from what I came up with, that one is not plug and play? A lot of people are just getting seat from a used civic and swapping vs taking seat apart to replace switch but SRS module needs to be programmed afterwards, is that correct?

I baught the car used and he said the SRS light has been on awhile and he never looked into it. But kind of important feature in the car. Probably one worth having functioning properly.

Re: 2006 civic SRS SENSOR

Right side sensor is quite different from a right front sensor! Wording is critical on these dang cars LOL

42-11 is for the right front though.

and the other was for passenger occupancy seat switch.
What's the code # for that one? (I can't use your wording)

Have SRS codes been erased, and these codes both returned?

Check your VIN for recalls below, especially the airbag recalls?

Re: 2006 civic SRS SENSOR

I thought the airbag recalls were only due to the inflators on Takata supplied airbags only

I explained it was the the front impact sensor in the original post I was just clarifying it’s the right side(in the front). Not meant to confuse, sorry.. Not sure what the code was for the the seat or the proper wording, I guess LOL. I wrote down what the fault was and forgot to note the fault code. But it’s the seat weight switch most cars have them they sense weight to turn airbag on and off based on the weight of the occupant in the front passenger seat. If weight switch senses anywhere between 58lbs to 72lbs on the front seat The airbag should be off. According to the suggested troubleshooting method given to me by the shop. He said to weigh up a object to 58lbs and place on seat and “air bag off light” should come on, then place another 15 lbs and light should go out. Easy enough I guess.

Just wondering about changing it if I do determine it is faulty and I can find a used seat can I just put it in and plug and play? Or will it require to be hooked on a scanner?

I checked for recalls and there is a huge airbag recall for these years civics, but I ran my vin and apparently it’s not affected.

Re: 2006 civic SRS SENSOR

If it's actually the seat weight sensors, they are basically strain gauges attached to the seat frame, and if you replace the sensors/tracks, or seat they need to be calibrated to the SRS control unit

If it's something in the OPDS (occupant position detection system), that's a different group of parts in the passengers seat and they also need to be calibrated to the control unit if replaced

Calibration for both can be done with a capable scanner, or manually using special procedures

-------

Word error.....we have issues with terms like 'drivers airbag' and 'drivers side airbag', they are two completely different (and expensive) items, clarification is almost always necessary to avoid mistakes!

Right and left are the same way....Far too many people get it wrong when it comes to vehicles so we must always clarify 'drivers side' or 'passengers side'
(and cars are the entire reason I have to stop and think hard about my left and right, they just aren't natural terms anymore)

ok, so if I was to get a used seat from another car that was known to not have any SRS faults, what would be the manual procedure that I could calibrate that seat?
