06 Civic EX sedan wont start

The car was running fine and then all of a sudden it wouldnt start. I had to change out the ignition cylinder because the key got stuck. The car has brand new battery and starts runs for like 15 seconds then dies. Any ideas of why the car wont start and stay running?

Re: 06 Civic EX sedan wont start

If it runs for about two seconds, then dies and leaves the green key light flashing rapidly several times, it needs programmed.

You will tow it to a dealer to get the new keys/cylinder/immobilizer parts programmed to match the rest of the car.

Inquire about the "immobilizer brake code" when you call the dealer. If they are nice, they might tell you about it and that would at least save you the tow bill.

Normally when people have issues with the key either unable to go in and turn, or come out of the ignition, it is because of worn tumblers in the cylinder.
If you had posted about this before getting another column lock, I would have told you to send it to me (USA) and I could retumble the original one. (Not for free, of course.)

If it actually runs for (as you say) 15 seconds before it dies and the green key does not flash, you probably have a different problem.

Another question: You say it has a new battery, how long was it in there before this "no start" problem came up? If this all happened immediately after trying to jump start the car, you may have yet another different problem.
There are a couple of TSBs about immobilizer issues on 06's.

Depends on

what is actually wrong,

what the car will still do,

and what you are capable of doing with it as far as fixing anything.

Elaborate please.

What about the key is wrong?
What is the problem with the key and car?
Will the car still start and run?

Include any other relevant details.
