Unable to shift past 2nd gear problem

Hi everyone,

I had a very unexpected problem today. While driving I was suddenly unable shift from 2nd gear to 3rd gear, and beyond. I am currently only able to shift from 1st to 2nd and Reverse (with shifter depressed on the left side), but nothing higher. It feels like something is blocking my shifter from going past 1st and 2nd.

Has anyone encountered a similar problem or would have any idea what the problem might be? I have babied my car thus far, rev-matching etc, and have not felt any grinding of the gears or slipping of the clutch. Thinking synchros or shift linkages? What can I do?

Thanks a million in advance guys.

Re: Unable to shift past 2nd gear problem

Pull your center console and lube the shifter ball, thats probably whats hanging you up.

If there was a problem with the shifter, you'd only be able to shift to 1-3-5 or 2-4-R because there are two cables that shift your tanny into gears, one goes left and right, the other is forward and backward. Since you can shift into 1,2,and R I think you just need to throw some lube on that ball.

If that doesnt work, pop your hood and disconnect your shifter cables and make sure they can shift manually. If they work just fine, then you need to replace your shifter.

Re: Unable to shift past 2nd gear problem

Just left dealership now. Apparently one of the shifter cables were twisted and binding, preventing the gear shifter from moving. Thanks for the help!
Cheers

That happened to me a few weeks ago.... I couldn't do 3, 5, or reverse..... The linkage had come out of its tray under the air filter.... Buddy of mine is a mechanic he put it back in and put the horseshoe clamp on it and BOOM good as new

Re: Unable to shift past 2nd gear problem

So after getting the car back yesterday (warranty), I was driving today and had some difficulty getting the shifter into 4th, like I did yesterday, felt some resistance, I jiggled the shifter, and then it worked.
I'll be bringing it back to the dealer again...
