Stuck Thermometer

I have a 2008 Si sedan. Every now and then the thermometer gets "stuck" and will display the same temperature regardless of what temperature it is outside. Eventually it gets unstuck and works again.

Today the thermometer was stuck at 88 degrees even though it was well over 100 degrees. (Phoenix is a hot place.)

Anyone know what the problem might be?

The car is still under warranty, but if the thermometer happens to be unstuck the day I take it in, I'll just end up wasting my time because the dealer won't fix anything if they can't verify the problem.

If there's something I can easily check or fix, I'd rather do that than potentially waste a bunch of time going to the dealer.

Re: Stuck Thermometer

Could be a bad coolant temp sensor or it could be just the needle getting stuck some how in the cluster.

Re: Stuck Thermometer

I'm not referring to the coolant temperature. I'm talking about the air temperature thermometer. And it's digital, so there's no needle that can get stuck. (I'm not even sure where the air temp thermometer sensor is.)

Re: Stuck Thermometer

Are you talking bout the gauge that tells you how hot your motor is?

And the air temp sensor is plugged into the intake pipe.

Re: Stuck Thermometer

No, I'm not talking about engine temperature at all. I'm talking about the thermometer that measures the air temperature outside the car.

Re: Stuck Thermometer

probably the air temp sending unit. those temp displays use a simple sensor that mounts outside the car. now where to find it? im not sure. just take it to the dealer, should still be under warranty.
