I bought a used 2006 Civic LX from a dealer. It only came with one fob. I want my wife to have a key as well. I thought that I could have a simple key made for her (w/o fob), but the dealer tells me that they have a fob, which costs $68, or a manual key, which costs $29 but which also requires "reprogramming" that the dealer charges $50 for.
Does that make sense?

Re: key question
Yes. The key has a chip in it that requires programming.
Did you buy the car from a Honda dealership? Any good dealership should at least give you another key if one of the keys is missing... especially if it is one of their own vehicles.

Unfortunately, I haven't found that to be true. I purchased an '01 Civic from the same dealer that came with only one key, and I had to pay for a duplicate.
