Ok, well Hopefully this is the right place to put this topic. I picked up this DTM Style muffler, used. It's in good conditon, Bla, bla bla. Anyway, the pipe coming off of the exhaust is larger than the stock pipe. This muffler needs to be welded on. So my question to you is, this muffler shop told me I would have to have a whole catback system done, inorder to do it right. So the shop told me they would put one together for me for like $180. This price include the welding of the muffler and the new pipes to fit everything. Is it this a good idea to go with something like this? If not, what should I look for, problems wise with a setup like this? Is there anything wrong with welding up a used muffler like this? Will the sound and performance change? Thanks everyone. I need as much input as possible.
Thanks

If the muffler is somewhat close to being able to fit, then a good shop should be able to weld it up using pre-fabricated or fabricated brackets, hangers and pipe reducer(s). I would take it down to a reputable shop and show it to them, and ask how much it would cost.

Your choices:
1. Weld only the muffler (stock piping 1.75" / muffler 2.25"-2.5" inlet...it can still be welded with some hammering) $30-40
2. Full custom piping + weld muffler $45-100 (I paid 45, but most people pay close to 100........ 180 is stupid now since it's probably not mandrel bent). Make sure you get an aftermarket resonator (additional $30-50) or else you muffler will sound like CRAP from the outside.
3. sell that muffler / save for a real cat-back
If I were you, I'd do #1 because custom crush-bent piping (the one you are getting probably) sucks a lot! The air flow is pretty bad...
Or if you really want to do it right, do #3 and buy like a DC TCS catback exhaust. You get what you pay for.
