Where does EX get its extra 12 HP from?
Not sure if this has been covered before, but I don't remember seeing anything about it. The DX, LX, and EX all basically have the same engine. They're all 1.7 liter, have the same displacement, and so on. What makes the EX different besides VTEC? What is it about the EX that draws 12 more HP over the LX/DX?

Flywheel (advertised) HP has nothing to do with gearing or the exhaust system.

Well, for one, the exhaust has a lot to do with flywheel HP. The engine is "breathing" better therefore making more hp. As for the gears, you are correct. I did not know we were talking flywheel power. My bad.[hr]

variable valve timing and lift electronic control, higher compression... exhaust manifold... (exhaust manifold does have something to do with flywheel hp, IMO) hmm what else...
the shorter, more aggressive gearing does allow better application of those hp in the high rpm ranges though.
