Heat shield... the name says it.
It prevents heat from reaching the filter. Doesn't do much with SRI's imo, but i would guess a heatshield would work GREAT with the AEM CAI (due to the filter's location).

thats what i thought, thanks ak; and i guess i will not be purchasing one of these because it seems usless, your intake is gonna heat up anyways so blah and injen might not recommend it for the race division cai. something for me to look into for you all.

in SRI's the filter sits in the middle of the engine bay so the heatshield would be pretty useless
It might lower the temperature of the air by 2-3 degrees C at the most.. who knows!
and for the Injen CAI, you don't even need one. The filter is too far from the engine bay

Hey injencivic, your Injen propaganda worked on me. I'm installing my new Race Division today (if I can get my *** off this chair) or this weekend. I was talking to my brother (he got the intake for me from his store) and he said heatshield is really not necessary on the CAI's because it's not particularly close to a heat source, unlike the AEM CAI, which he said it may come in handy for.

the injen heatshield.. or at least, the round one that covers the filter.. is useless..
u can use it as a splashguard for a CAI, but er.. 50 dollar splashguard?
its useless in the SRI setup since its not blocking off surrounding air or keeping the surrounding air cool at all.. its still in the middle of an engine bay with hot air.
and if wont lower 2-3 degree celcius because thats a butt load. that'll definitely affect horsepower. but.. I dont think the universal heatshield does anything at all.
their other heatshield made specifically for the car works better.. in that it coverse more area and blocks off a bigger area... the air will eventually warm up though and the heatshield will be pretty useless.
K&N's FIPK with their heatshield works pretty good.. u can see that it blocks off quite a bit of area and keeps the filter seperated well...

the K&N FIPK is plastic so it don't heat up like the other intakes and it's a sri with a heat shield, from what everyone was saying on the forums, it is the best intake for our cars.[hr]
