How 2 re-align bolts on rear lower install

I took off one of the bolts for the rear lower tie bar install and when i tried 2 put it back on the thread on the holes wasn't aligned right. How do I get it to line up properly again without messing anything up? I got my car sitting outside and kinda need it for tomorrow. Any help is appreciated

dang that sux. When I had that problem, I used a floor jack to jack up my car, and then the jack from my car to lift the control arm. You just have to play with it until you can get the screw in. good luck!

It's very hard. I ended up using pliers, blocks of wood, and my extra jack to do it. Took me about 6 hours. Remember, next time use a clamp to clamp down on the sheet metal around the part that slips out. It'll hold it in place allowing you to take the bolts out.

Could I just keep the car on a jack and hit in the metal piece in with a mallet or something? I tried jacking up the arm but it's a little off to the side too, that made it even vertically but not horizontally. . . any other suggestions?

I know what you mean. I was in the exact same situation! Hitting it with a mallet (a rubber one wouldn't damage anything) won't do anything. Unless... Try this. Clamp it down betwean the sheet metal. Not very tightly, but tightly enough. Then hit it with a mallet to move it into place. Hey, that might work. Do you have the kind of clamps to do that? I jacked up my rear. As soon as I took out the bolt, the arm fell and was hard to align back into place.
What I did was kick and push it back into place.
Wasn't as hard as everyone said it was.

What was hard was the generic rear upper bar. Poor fitment...

What did you kick? The sheet of metal or the metal piece between it? You weren't worried about the car falling when you were kicking it?

AHHHHHHH! Sorry, I was wrong about the whole thing.
Theres what I did.

I put my car on jackstands.
After you take out the bolt the arm falls out of place AND your wheels/shocks/springs (the suspension) also drops down.
I put my jacks under that area and started pumping. That compresses the shocks/springs and also brings the wheels up, closing the gap between the tire and the fenders.
This makes the arm easier to work with and thats how I got it back into place.
Hopes this helps.

EDIT: Sorry if it was misleading. My mind must have disappeared...My last post was about when I changed my brakes.

Don't know what channel locks are. I would try vise grips. That way you won't scratch anything up. If you need more force I guess use those channel locks, but at least protect the surface with a rag or something (on both sides).

Thats what I had to do...only on one side.

Take the tire off though on the side you are working on.
Less weight = easier movement on your part of the control arm.

I installed mine in about 15 minutes....Jacked the car up (right under where the bar is installed) then took another jack and raised it till it was snug on the control arm. Undid the bolt, put the bar on, put the bolt back in (arm did not move due to jack) and then did the other side... If you keep pressure on the control arm it will not move at all. As for getting yours back in...Just play with it, it will slide back in with a little force. On the other side try doing what i mentioned above...Like i said 15 minutes (with air tools) so maybe 20 without...
Good luck.

The control fell out of place, (with extra jack) i jacked it up back near its original place and used a long screw driver to realign the holes.

Worked for me; approx 20 mins

Use ur jack to jack up the drum brake....it'll relieve some weight from the control arm and use some wd-40 or something....then try to move the arm around with some elbow greese or use another spare jack..this made it easier for me but took some moving around....hope this helps...

I finally got it, what I did was jacked up the metal piece between the 2 metal plates (the metal you have to line up) and jacked it up higher than it needed to be. . . then i moved it down using the soft side of some pliers and that moved it diagonally into place. I had to hold it while I screwed it in and it wasn't easy but I got it. . . I got like 4 more DIY's before spring semester to start on now.

THANK YOU ALL SO MUCH. . . i got a lotta useful comments that helped me out. My friend that was helping me has a Toyota T100 and he said that he doesn't work on his truck too much because if he runs into problems he has nobody to ask for help and was surprised how many responses I got within a few minutes on this site.

I visit the site about once a day for a few minutes, I don't always post stuff (Thank you SEARCH button) but I'm on here a lot. It's weird cuz' whenever i need help on something there's already a post on it in the tech forum so I don't usually post new topics. . . by the way I put new pics of my car up, tell me how ya like them. I'm redoing my interior in the next week or 2 also.
