Help on painting housing on headlights

I plan on clearing, and painting the headlight housing this afternoon. I already have some black primer, black 500 degree engine enamel, and some high temp clear coat. I was wondering if I should use all three?? or do I not need to prime the chrome. Also will the engine enamel stick to the plastic chrome? Also to people who have done this....how much time did it take you to CLEAR and PAINT your headlights. thanks for the help

I just used the 500 degree paint....then clear coat......
It worked fine.....I didn't primer...someone might have dif opinion though........
And time-----I had cleared mine before, that took me (1st time) about 6 hours......cause I was a stupid ****.....the second time.....when I painted the inserts....With paint time to dry and everything, it only took me about 4 hours......
If it's your 1st time, plan on a good day you are doing nothing.......
good luck, trevor

Yeah, I too plan on painting and clearing my lights, so I've read many a post abou this. Some have just painted with no primer, some have even wet sanded before painting. It's all in who you ask. Do a Search and you'll find many threads about this. I know I have. Good Luck.

ive painted mine, and i wish i had primed them, they do flake off if your not careful, the extra 30 mins it takes to prime them is worth it to avoid haveing any of the paint flake off when your forceing them back into the clear plastic shell. if your going to do a mod to your car do it well, half-a$$ing it is the first step down the road to rice-ness

don't use primer. not if you're using high heat paint, which is ceramic based and will not flake or crack.
