Installing rear lower tie bar.....HELP!!

If I remove the bolts for the lower tie bar installation, what will happen? Will everything stay together? It seems like the bolts are holding everything together, and if I take it off, some parts will fall off. Will they? or are they just nuts? thanks for your help.

to make it even easier use a vise grip to clamp the control arm so it won't fall down...then remove the bolt

oh man. heh.

the lower control arms are those two things comming outta each side.. holding onto by those two bolts u were trying to remove without a jack... the car would have fell on you.

good thing u came and ask eh? heh.

u can do the wood thing, or simply insert another bolt from the rear to keep the LCA from dangling around... its kinda a hassle to adjust it into place once it falls outta place.

that idea is from Grey. pretty straight foward... as u take the bolt out, insert one in temporary... I think u get what I'm talking about... a bolt, a stick, anything that'll hold.

I'm having a lower tie bar on my way too.... been waiting for the neuspeed one forever, so I just went ahead and got the ebay one for now.

you don't really need to jack up the car to install a lower tie bar. I only did it for more room. it doesn't matter if the lower control arm falls when you're installing it, but if it does it'll take you a very long time to wedge back into place and put the bolt through.

Ok I am very confused here. If I just take off the bolt without jacking up the car, will it still be safe under there? Is the whole purpose of the wood thing to just keep everything in place?

I didn't even notice CapYoda's post until now. maybe he knows something that I don't, but looking at the situation using my own logic, I think-- what's it matter whether the car is being supported by the rear springs or a jack? both would be supporting the body, just in a different location. if the control arm falls, it falls. the control arm itself doesn't hold anything in place when the vehicle is just sitting there...

if you have enough room under the car to work without lifting it, it's safe the wood this is solely to prevent the control arm from falling out of alignment.

HAHAHA.

man I'm a dumb****

I forgot about the springs and the shocks holding it up.

even then, it should be obvious the control arm doesn't hold the car up...heh. I must have been on something.

anyhow dont listen to me, its obvious I dont know anything

I just used the jack and pushed up the brake outward so the holes would be even. No need for any extra creativity. You only have to do this on one side.
