Sup man. I also have a DX but I paid mine in full, back in December 2000. NO ONE had any of the new generation Civics yet. I just wanted to be the first, so I paid the same amount an EX Civic is being sold for today. Not sure if it was worth it.

Anyways... I didn't want a huge tach on my dashboard, so I upgraded my DX gauge cluster (Fuel/Temp & Speedometer) to an LX Cluster (Fuel & Tachometer & Speedometer & Temperature). I bought the replacement on eBay. It was so easy to install. Check out the DIY on having white gauges. It tells you how to take apart your cluster. It's all plug and play!

Don't go to a dealer; they will ask $600 for the replacement and about $1000 for installation and setting your current milage.
I woulda had them do it, but I needed my money more for my college. So I did it myself.

If you gots any other questions, email me.

XxSoVeReiGNxX, Thank you for the suggestion I know how EZ it is to do, but I have a big tach and a shift light and I love it. I would upgrade to an LX or EX dash but I think it look's tacky when you have an aftermarket tach with a stock one. So if anyone know's of any company's that are selling any GLOW GAUGES for a DX please tell me.

- Try searching. I know somebody was sponsering a group buy on specially made DX indiglo gauges. As I recall though, they were somewhat expensive.

Thanks a lot for the info on switching gauge clusters. I also have a DX but I didn't want a huge tach sitting on my dash. I asked the parts guy at Honda and he didn't even know if that was possible. I've been searching on ebay but so far have been unsuccesful at finding a LX or EX cluster. Do you know where else I could find one? Also does the mileage automatically change once you insert the new cluster??

The miles stay withe the cluster and I would go to Honda to get it endless it's more then $300 then I would look on the net, look at others on the forum there was a guy with a link to a discount page to get one.

Thanks for the information, and I don't doubt you but someone emailed me today and said that the the mileage is stored in the computer of the car, so when I swap it it will read whatever the computer says it should be at. I don't know, I just might end up getting an aftermarket tach. Is there any drilling required with the external tach?

Here's the answers that I have found (because I HAVE DONE the cluster swap myself)

1: The miles are stored in the Gauge Cluster itself (it's like the memory in a computer. It doesn't matter which computer you put that memory into, what ever data is on that memory is still there. If you add to it, it will be saved. If you switch the memory to a new computer afterwards, that newly saved info will be what appears next.)
2: Some websites have clusters for sale. eBay is where I bought mine (beware, don't expect to get a BRAND SPANKIN NEW Cluster). Go to your dealership and waste a 2 week's salary '$300 - $700' whatever they feel like charging you (the people where I go to are buttheads and don't help at all. They have their turbos and won't want you to get close to having a car as cool as theirs)
3: Check the DIYs for installation of Indiglo Faces (you can't install them without taking apart your original Gauge, so it WILL tell you how to do that too!)
4: To get your real mileage after insdtalling another gauge cluster, I have a little post-it note on the plastic shield (right after the miles display) with "+ 12063 - 6003 miles" written on it. Whatever mileage is on the current gauge face plus (+) the
original 12063 of your car minus (-)the 6003 that was on the newer gauge face equals (=) the real current mileage. Right now my gauge reads 8732 miles. 8732 + 12063 - 6003 = 14792 (the real mileage of my car). You DON'T have to put a note there also, just pretend your car has only 8732 miles, that it has gone well over.

Now I have a question for you! How do I get that new car smell back??? I drove some free-loaders home after a party one time, (yeah we were all drunk) and my car hasn't smelled the same since. It doesn't smell like beer or anything bad, but it doesn't smell the same as it did in December 2000 when I drove it home for the first time. I put some fresheners in but I miss the "OEM smell".
My sister's had a 2001 Toyota Rav4 longer than I've had my Civic (We like to get our stuff before everyone else does!), but every time I step in it, it smells brand new! It's not fair...
