am really stupid question... which wire is 12V

I am looking at the back of the 12V accessory adapter... there are two wires, yellow (with green stripe I think) and black... I thought the yellow one is the one I should tape into if I want power for my lights... but no power... I know I should have tested it with a voltmeter or test light... I assumed black was ground. Does anyone know for sure? thanks in advance.

The wire connected to your cigarette lighter/power outlet is 12V. Black is ground and the other is the one you need.
