timing on car mess up?
i just put in my cam gear and advanced it 3 degree but i don't know if i did it right. first i lossen the three screw then instead of turn the bolt where it holds the cam gear, i turned the crank instead and the timing belt and just the part of the cam gear where the belt is held on moved all the way until it hit the three bolts that i loosen and then the whole thing moved. i have figure it out that i was suppose to move the bolt where it held the cam gear in place to advanced and retard it. so i put it back to 0 degree. did i mess up my timing? how can i check if my timing is right? can the timing gun work for our car because our car doesn't have a spark plug wire for it to hook up to. if i take it to a shop can the teel me if my timing is off?
dude, thats what happend to me, but i honestly think that it didnt do anything but throw your adjustment to one side. i put mine back and the car worked, but my problems occured in the long run, cuz after a while, the car starts performing differently... and starts having wierd symptoms caused by the timing/cam gear. if i were u, id keep the timing settings on the gear close to 1 or 2. its suggested by all tune shops not to exceed 2 degrees with out head/cam work. any more and you will be messin with ur timing more than u wanna be. some people said they have adjust to 5 degrees advanced, but that is exactly what u do NOT wanna do...
