Intake Question
Intake Question
quick question..... whoever got an intake for their car.... from the way i understand the d17 engine isn't like the d16 so there isn't a sudden kick in for vtec or whatever? so for vtec can you hear it kick in with the d17 and intake on? or no? and also whats the vtec kickin for the d17
i can hear my vtec engauge mostly if im on the highway or main road and i downshift to 4th/3rd and steadily increase rpm. do not mash the gas. you have to be going about 50. mph. It is noticeable because of my GReddy exhaust....louder sounding. The tone changes at about 4200. It sorta screams......

kicks in at 4700. but it actually engages in lower rpms. if you get the diy vtec light you can see when it comes on, but it doesnt kick in until around 4700. but it comes on at about 2500 rpms, which has suprised all of the people that have the diy vtec light like me.
DIY VTEC LIGHT!!!
theres the link for the diy on the light. not hard at all to do.

You can try to do a min-me set up.
Lowered compression with a better/smoother head. Such as a D17a non vtec bottom end and a d17a2 head.
The only 'true' VTEC is heard on DOHC motors is false, if you're a swap guru with a dyno in hand it's quite possible.
