I've had the cam gear on for several months, I dont know what to think without a dyno. I dont think it helps that much anyways without a cam change and other internal mods done. Anyways, i have been trying to figure out all about ignition timing on our cars and how it works since we don't have a distributor. I know with the cam gear it said in the instruction to check the ignition timing after you adjust the cam gear, But with out cars distributorless ignition system I dont know if the ECU automatically check the ignition timing or what is going on. I am glad to see other people are putting the cam gear on... Hopefully soon we'll be able to get the most out of it....

most cars ecus will adjust ignition timing automatically on a distributorless car...when the rpms are at idle it fires the spark closer to tdc but at higher rpm it advances the ignition timing to compensate for the time that it takes gasoline to burn and the speed of the piston. cam timing and ignition timing are not related. cam timing refers to how soon the valves open and close, and the ignition timing refers to when the spark plug is actually fired
hmm i cant find anything on DIS advance timing...
maybe you can try advance camshaft maybe the ecu
will learn itself... advance spark.. lol

so there is no way i can check my timing. well i hope i did everything right. now i'll try it at 3 degree since that what you guys says it is best at. so how would i go into advanceing my timing. i just have to loosen up the three bolts and pull on the timing belt to advance it 3 degrees or what? this is my first time doing this. i need a little help. and do they sell smaller torque ranch. i have a big one only.
well, im not sure what to say about this thread. im actually very surprised in what IDQCIVIC had to say. of all people i thought he would be one of the most understanding about this, but apparently not. im not sure how many people have to waste their money on this product before they realize that it is NOT BENEFICIAL until you have a built up engine, in which needs to have a camgear to alter the cam timing. i guess everyone is just gonna have to learn for themselves.
but for the people listening... please put your money towards a better purchase, UNLESS you have aftermarket or custom INTERNALS. this product will do absolutely nothing GOOD for your engine until then. if anything, you'll end up screwing up your timing, which will cause your car to run like S H ! T. my car's timing somehow slipped because of the gear when i was advancing the timing, and now its all jacked up. Even when my timing was exact, and i had it at zero, retard, and advanced 2 degrees.... it did absolutely nothing but shift around the concentration of my powerband, in a very minimal way, almost un-noticable. to be honest, id give my AEM camgear away for free just to get my STOCK timing back!
