You heard some BS. You can easily put and intake and exhaust on our Civics without ECU upgrades.

What does more fuel have to do with VTEC? Someone's giving you the run around. I'm guessing they're talking about the V-AFC which controls the air/fuel mix and can control VTEC.
But to answer the question, you can put them on, it's a simple swap of stock parts for aftermarket stuff, but you won't see a whole lot of power from it. Install the intake, reset the ECU, and off you go. I'm not sure about the exhaust. As long as the O2 sensors are still hooked up (or an O2 sim if you need it), there's no problem.

i think 1 individual person's answer to this question is sufficient. we dont need 5 replies all stating the same damn answer...

Resetting your ecu you can use the 15amp fuse labelled "F.I ECU" which will keep your radio settings and not set off your lojack as for the V-AFC it is useless unless you have done serious mod's such as a cam/springs which you will need to go to a dyno to tune the air/fuel ratio...Same for the Vtec controller there is no need for that unless you have a cam or a significant amount of HP gains, You can change your Vtec crossover to whatever you want but it should be where the HP and Torque cross which would need a dyno =).

To reset the ECU, unhook the negative battery cable for 10 mins, then reconnect. When your car is disconnected for that long the ECU has to reset itself. It does this by reading the air/fuel ratios which will be different with and intake. You should do this with any mod that affects your engine, including adding a header.

Resetting the ECU will allow it to "learn" and adjust your air/fuel ratio accordingly, such as an intake would be inducting more air which would need more fuel. The ECU will learn over time, but for the time it takes it will not run properly. to reset your ECU I recommend (if you have a radio with presets) opening your fuse box and pull the fuse labeled "F.I ECU" (Fuel Injection ECU) its a 15A fuse, pull this for about a minute (per Senior tech at Acura) I pull mine before starting the mod. After putting it back in start your car and DONT TOUCH THE GAS for 10 minutes you'll see your idle jumping around, turn off, on, off, on and your good to go.. and yes you would need to do this after installing a header.
