RSX Muffler on Civic ?? Hmm

RSX Muffler on Civic ?? Hmm
I really don't want to draw alot of attention to myself driving around town, so I'm thinking about investigating an RSX OEM Muffler for my civic. Offhand does anyone know what size exhaust tubing the RSX has? I'm guessing probably somewhat larger than our civics.
Also, anyone know of some good RSX boards like this one?
3rd - Anyone have an RSX muffler that they don't need (added an aftermarket system)

why an rsx muffler? cause its not loud? you could always put a resonator on your aftermarket muffler. if thats not quiet enough get a silencer. but one board i've been visiting lately is http://www.clubrsx.com

i was looking into a kakimoto/spoon exhaust for the civic but they dont make them.
the muffler guy said maybe an exhaust for the RSX would fit but after closer inspection he said he would prolly have to hack it, torch off the muffler hooks and weld them back on in the opposite direction. needless to say, he didnt want to be the one to butcher the exhaust

Ya, I really don't want my car to be any louder than it is. (Just getting a speeding ticket has further convinced me to not want to look fast) The RSX muffler is designed to flow the amount of exhaust out of a 200 hp engine, so it would probably help. I should dyno it though to really see. Thanks for the link to the RSX site. There have got to be a bunch of people who have replaced their stock exhaust and don't need it anymore.

Cool, thanks for posting that pic. Which RSX is that though? Base or type-S ?? It looks like a dealer part location pic from the computer system, do you work for a dealer? If so, can you get the part number for the muffler, it looks alot like the civics... Hmm
I just called a dealer and there are 2 different part numbers for the muffler on a base RSX vs RSX-S. It may just be a different outlet he said though. But is it just me or does the RSX muffler in the diagram look somewhat bigger than the civics? It just might work, plus look very stock!

im not really sure why you want this muffler? the only difference is that the RSX mufflers come with a tip on the end of the muffler. you will get no performance gains, and you will be spendin a ridiculous amount of money just to put on an OEM RSX exhaust system. i know your intentions are good, but kinda lame to try to go from OEM civic to OEM RSX exhaust...
just get an aftermarket exhaust that you can pop a silencer into...

I appreciate the concern and truly I'm not sure if there would be a performance gain, but I am going to try anyway. The RSX has much higher performance and they WILL have higher flow. That is a certainty. I really really do not want a loud exhaust.
So how loud would an aftermarket be with a silencer on it? Or whatever the thingy is... Stock or close to it? Cuz anything that is easy to tell isnt for me. Thanks for the input though.

Or you could go to a muffler place like mineke or somthing like that and get a customized exhaust with a regular muffler look and sound, but you would still get more performance but you would have to watch out for the back pressure if the muffler is to small of and outlet.

from those diagrams there don't seem to be much difference between the rear-sections fo the exhaust...i'd really like to see if they are interchangeable.....cause that means the spoon exhaust can be bolted in...they do look identical though [IMG]i/expressions/face-icon-small-confused.gif[/IMG]

Hey Sleeper, I think it would be a great idea. Performance wise I have no clue so I wont state my opinion, but looks - it'll look nice and simple and non-ricey so
Lets see this done man....
It's not going to do shyt performance-wise. Why? Because it's just like any other exhaust. There's nothing special about the RSX exhaust except that it works for the engine it's hooked up to. Even aftermarket RSX exhausts do about as much as an aftermarket exhaust for a Civic.
On top of that, there's something else to think about. You cannot put an EX exhaust on an LX without the exhaust manifold because the LX exhaust alone won't hook up to the EX catalytic converter, but if you happen to have an EX exhaust manifold (stock, or HP's 4-1 header with high flow cat converter for example) then disregard that. I'm only saying that because you have an LX.
The question is about the cat converters. Are they different from the RSX and the Civic? Most likely it's going to be - which could be the issue. This is kinda interesting. I think I might ask my friend with a Type S if he still has his stock one.

You will have to get that little pipe off the back of the muffler cut off and welded onto the pipe that fits to the civic muffler. I will repeat that the muffler will 99% sure do nothing for performance. It is the piping that will change your performance more than the muffler. Besides if we are only squeezing 1 or 2 horsies out of a full cat back, u think just a muffler will change things? i personally don't think it is worth it. I bet if you cut a stock EX muffler and a RSX muffler in half and looked at the inside, they would be almost identical. The RSX muffler just has a tip. But if you want to do so then go ahead.
