That piece also functions as a "spoiler" of sorts, directing air up across the engine. Removing it on some cars makes them run hotter- so I would not just remove it.

this is sooo crazy... I just got back from lunch where I went to the POST OFFICE to ship some EBAY stuff when I noticed that about 6-8 inches of that rubber was dangling low on the dirver's side. This happened TODAY... I get back from lunch, hop on this site and whoah... there's this thread. Maybe not as crazy as sleeping with a sister you didn't know you had, but still...
