IDQcivic should not be trusted
I have to leave my car in neutral if I want my remote start to work. Anyways i hate when people leave it in gear! That's not good for the trans, especially if you are on a hill! I remember this time I was getting an oil change, and the dumb *** left it in first and parked it by this big curb. Well I started the car and the thing lunged forward and hit the curb, I was so pissed at that **** for what he did. Anyways thats what the parking brake is for, just use that!

why is it such a big deal about engaging the clutch to start? you're gonna have to put it in gear eventually anyway

i don't hear anyone driving an s2000 complaining about how the key has to go in, then they push the red start button (as opposed to just pushing the start button). I look as the clutch engagement as a safety feature, no biggie, and wouldn't want to start jury-rigging the car unless I knew what I was doing. wait til that guy takes his car to a dealership for warranty work -- instant voidation!

IF the person who leaves it gear does it correctly, the clutch shouldnt be let out until the car is completely off, so the car is not engaged in the gear and should not cause the car to lunge in any way at all. and why would it be bad to be left in gear, its a safety issue. i would much rather mess up the transmission than total my car if its parked on a hill and the e-brake gives out. you shouldnt trust your e-brake that much. and until i have something happen to my car while its in gear, i will keep it in gear everytime i turn the car off.

naa what i do is pull the parking break, then let the car sit for a couple seconds off, then put it into first.

how hard is it to press down your clutch? thats the stupidest thing ive ever seen. holy crap.
and you should leave it in gear when u park..if your going down hill it should be in reverse, if uphill, your car should be in 1st-5th. any forward gear...

How about everyone just chills. People do what they do!!!! Stop argueing about it!!! The way I would do it would be to just take the sensor under the pedal and cross the 2 wires. BUT then my cruise control wouldn't work. I don't understand why you would want to do this and would not do it myself, but hey whatever you feel like doing!!! I do agree with the keeping it in neutral and using the E-brake. That is ideal. Not that putting it in gear is nessecarely bad. If your on a hill it isnt a good idea. Im just worried about having it in gear while parked and someone slamming into my car. That happened to my mom awhile ago and it Fck'd up her trans. I also agree with people that say that you will need to push the clutch in anyways before you start to go. My opinion on that would be that if you can't push a pedal in for a moment then your just plain lazy!! Of course thats my opinion and im not going to argue it!!

Just want to say that this site is the best one by far for the 01-02 civic's!!

Our cars are not supposed to be left in gear because of the self-adjusting clutch. Hondas, toyotas, etc., have been this way for quite some time now.

Also, the clutch engagement issue is strictly for safetly. So the car doesn't jump abruptly if the car is in gear. I am almost certain it is nothing more than a switch that lets or keeps the engine from starting. My brother's toyota 4x4 has a button on the dash that when pressed, allows the truck to be started w/o the clutch. This was factory by the way.

simple as this. and in this order .
car in neutral
engine off
e-brake on
shift into third.
this way there is no stress on the trans unless your e-brake gives out. and if it does the trans will hold it from rolling
