intake problem
hey whats up guys, even tho i dnt have a 7th gen, i still stick around on the site and read the forums cuz this site is pretty cool....I was wondering if you would be able to help me out with a prob. I have a 1998 honda prelude vtec and today i just installed my injen cold air intake. Now the problem is, when sitting stil, my car will go from idle (about 1000 rpms), jump to 1500 and then back down to 1000 and then back up and so on. Can anyone explain this? Any help is appreciated, thanks a lot

there was only two hoses, which were connected together after the install, one came from the intake manifold and the other came from the throttle body. Also when it does this, i can rev it up to about 2000 rpms for like 3 seconds and then let off and everything seems to be fine..... all hoses and clamps are on tight! idk wut to do!

so there was two separate hoses n u connected them together?? thas ur prob dude!!! cuz they are both trying to suck air, see the prob?! ok do not connect the hoses together, there should be somewhere on the intake that u can put them, if not then jus leave both hoses attached to nothing!

step 4. Remove the pcv pip and the water bypass hose. Take the 1/4 coupler and close the loop by joining the two water bypass hoses. Reuses the stock clamps to prevent slipping......on the stock intake, these hoses were connected together, just in a different way so im pretty sure it cant be that

hmm....well the pcv pipe is not a water hose, and should definetly not be connected to a water hose!!!!the hose for the pcv should go directly into the intake. is it possible there was 3 hoses and not jus two??

ok it looked like this, there was a hose that went from the stock intake to the engine valve port, and then 2 hoses 1 from the intake manifold and 1 from the throttle body that a were next to the intake hose, these two hoses, (it says they are water bypass hoses) were connected through the use of the pcv pipe. these two hoses are now connected together with a coupler and clamps, it looks that way in the instructions and everything fit well and looks fine, and then obviously the red foot long hose from the valve port to the nipple in the intake. These are all on tight and I don't see why my idle keeps jumping........by the way, DatJuice, thanks for all ur help so far, hope we can resolve this, and yes there were only two hoses not three like u asked
i have an injen civic on my car that i beat the mess out off. my car does the same. idles fine.... hit the gas and the rpms stay suspended at around 1500 for a while. i was told its most likely an O2 sensor.

reset the ECU. u just installed it? take out the fuse for the ECU.. let it sit for 10 minutes. then start car but dont step on gas... leave it idle for 10 minutes to adjust to the airflow... then turn off car after 10 minutes, and start the car... turn it off again without touching anything.. and finally turn on car and you're ready to go.
this step is according to ph0ng's DIY anyway.
but it works. for the 7th gen anyway.
I duno about ur car. but u should reset the ECU, its just trying to adjust to the different airflow.
and o2 sensors aren't on intakes.. they're on exhaust. you got the mass air flow sensor on the intake though.
