Follow up to warped bumper thread...
I went to the dealer today to have my oil changed and to get my rear bumper looked at. I posted last week that I had problems with it fitting correctly and fitting smoothly with the sheet metal. It looks like this:

You can tell that the sides waver in, then out near the tail lights. You can't tell too well, but under the taillight, you can actually see an unpainted part of the bumper.
The Honda dealer looked at it and sent me to their body shop to have it looked at. So here's the response I got:
That's acceptable, I can't make it any better.
So I said replace it.
He wanted to know what good that would do
He said not to expect perfection from a production line car, which I'm not, but I'd sure as hell hope the pieces of the car fit right. He said "It's only a Civic" Well Phuc you too pal!
I'm going to send the photos to Honda to see if they deem it acceptable. If they think that this is ok, then I don't know what to say... I don't find it acceptable at all. I should expect that all the components of the body fit together with some degree of precision... It looks like there's dents in the car.
But according to what I was told just deal with it, or get a kit that has a whole new rear bumper. As for me.... This is strike 2. 1 was the dent in the roof when I went to pick it up(I'll blame the dealer for that) .... I'm getting very pissed off at the lack of care for the cars they sell.

Thanks for the follow-up. I have the same problem with my rear bumper, so I'm interested in what Honda has to say. I'm on strike three after:
1. Defective instrument cluster.
2. Defective trunk.
3. Warped rear bumper (if Honda says that's a problem).
Again, thanks for the update, and keep us posted.

i actually went into honda for that too and they said the same thing. they can't do anything. Supposedly they called up honda and honda said that unless it's bulging out 15mm i believe then it's ok mine like pops out 5mm or something but damn i can see it. Oh and they said the same for my car cuz the driver side is lower than the passenger side. but they said it's not a big enough difference to matter. well honda customer service can kiss it

15 mm is 6/10 of an inch! That's rediculous! Anything less than that is acceptable???? Geez a I can see 6/10 of an inch with my glasses off (my eyes are 625/20). So much for "Honda Quality" This keeps up, I see a GTI in my future.

sorry i would have to agree with the people at honda. you cant expect everything to line up perfectly. to me it seems good enough. i guess this is what i expected out of a 14,000 car. if it was a beamer, then i'd be pissed. and its also urethene and it bends so i would think its harder to line everything up perfectly. as to metal you could shape it in any way and it just stays
i will disagree on the term good enough and it's just a civic. wow, evenif this car is cheaper than accords or camry, i cannot accept such statements. what happened to quality and standards? are we going to allow ourselves to get lower standards because we only have civics? im not flaming anybody but, come on, if we let this one go, then what will happen next to the next civic line production? people who complain shouldn't be tagged as pain in th *ss, but the company should listen to them because they are their customers. we are their customers, and we care for the quality the company gives us. just my 2cents.

i guess they should have tried a lil harder to line things up but then i personally dont think its worth the hassle cause it really isn't a big deal to me. but i guess its people like you who keep them in check so

My dealership replaced my bumper and it had a part of the bumper that was unpainted you couldnt see it unless you looked under the taillight but they said no problem and gave me a new one i think its all on the place you go and the people you talk to
I think u should hear something like that from your dealer but they also cant do nothing about it if the pumper itself isnt made to high qality standards its not going to look perfect. these cars ARE production cars and made in the US to save in production costs so they wont be as picky about detail as japan or germany
