dude, i seriously would buy that kinda thing from you if you sold it. you could start a store on eBay, or just make your own store, or just sell it by word-of-mouth (e.g. ppl on this board). that would be awesome.

Hmm... Allright. Well, at least I have one customer. I'll have to wait a while until I have enough money to buy in bulk though. Then I'll make the DIY and I'll have enough of everything to sell these kits. Hmm... I guess I could start a little business. Allright, that's what I'll do. I think this is a rather nifty DIY and I think it can be done to any mirror. I'll have to wait about a month before I get enough money to buy in bulk though. Settled. Look for Grey's LED Mirror Kit soon... I think Ebay is a good place to sell them. I'll give the member's of 7thgencivic.com a special discount. All others must pay extra. How much would you pay for a kit like this? Complete instructions with photographs. Everything you need. Minus the drill bits to drill the holes and minus the sanding bit to sand through the reflective coating. BTW, thanks for responding! I can never get enough responses out of you people.

hahaha....Grey, man, sorry im like the only one talking lol, hope im not annoying you

what about this: you sell 2 kits;

1. a ready to install kit which includes the normal kit mounted to the stock mirror assembly (for our cars that costs like $10 each from HondaAutomotiveParts.com), enough for 2 mirrors.
2. the normal kit that would include instructions for drilling, sanding and mount the lights to the mirror, plus the lights assembly itself, enough for 2 mirrors.

obviously kit 1 would cost more, but that way ppl that didnt want to mess with their stock mirrors themselves would have an option. just a thought.

btw, i'd probly pay $20-$30 for a simple kit number 2 that had non-customizable light settings, and like $40 or so for number a 2 with the customizability. for kit number 1 with customizability i'd pay like $60-$65. i dunno, i dont have any point of reference for what that kinda thing costs so i might be off. hope i've helped at least a bit

if i have time, and if you wish it, i could help ya with playing with the idea of using the microcontroller, cause i think that'd be sweet as crap, and i've never seen anything else like that available.

That's a good idea with the mirrors. I'm sure I would get a lot more orders if I did it that way. Weird thing is that there are two options at hondaautomotiveparts.com One costs $9.97 and the other costs $6.34. What do you think this could be? The mirror itself and then the black surround? The sedan and the coupe have different part numbers, so I would have to offer a kit for both models.

Depending on the price of that microcontroller I would go for it. What do you program it with though? Would I have to get one of those multi-switches (like in garage door openers)? If I figure out the wiring once, then it won't be a problem ever again.

Oh yeah, another idea. I would buy LED's that are white, but light up red. That way you couldn't see any red behind the mirror. Good idea?

hmm, i never noticed that the mirrors have 2 part numbers for each side, i would guess that one is the mirror, and maybe the other would be the plastic backing that attaches it to the mirror motor/mount.

the PIC microcontrollers vary in cost based on their size, number of I/O lines, etc, however the ones that would probably be best for testing with this application, which i have a couple of that i havent used yet, the PIC16F84 (which has flash EEPROM reprogrammable memory for easy changing of the code), and has like 10-11 I/O lines i think, in a 16pin DIP package, costs about $4-5 each. when you have used that to test the code fully, you can move to the one-time-programmable version of that, wich is like PIC16C84 i think, and it only costs a few dollars i believe.

the PIC microcontrollers are programmed with a special programmer that runs through the serial port of a PC, then there is free software to code with either a C-type language, or PIC assemby, and free software to run the programmer. i have a PIC programmer that costs about $20 (its a kit but i bought it in fully assembled form) and i just got a parallel port cable and download the free software for it (which is supposed to run on Win98, 2K, and XP).

i think that using white LEDs that turn red when lit up is an excellent idea, if you can find some that will work and are cheap, etc

I'd certainly pay 50-65 bucks for the ready-made kit...I'm not ballsy enough to drill into glass myself, but I'd certainly pay you to do it!

..grey

Let us know when they're avail. and I'm sure you'll get a lot of business from this site.

Hmmm, neither... How about a 'smiley' face? Heheh. #4 looks like you're making a turn going down. LoL. Seriously I think #1 is very unique. Other than that, a 'smiley' face would do. Heheh like this.

i found out how to remove the mirror!! i found a company that makes a product called Signal Mirror that is an aftermarket LED signal mirror. they have one for the 96-00 Civic's, and they have an installation manual that details how to remove the stock mirrors. check out the page here: Automotive Signal Mirror kit - 1996-2000 Honda Civic

also, their kits are like over $200 i think for just a mirror with the LEDs and the wiring, nothing special at all. thats hella high to me

Hey, there you go. Good find slikor! Now it's much easier to remove those. I'm in the process of ordering the components as I type this. I will only order enough for my prototype though. If it's a success then I'll order more and dish them out to sell to people. I need a nice circuit first though. I need to look for circuit drawing software. Freeware hopefully. The past couple of days have bean busy. I haven't had time to work on this. Tonight I'll try to post the completed circuit.

thats awesome Grey btw, i just looked at some tech diagrams for the 2000 Civic side mirrors compared with the 2001 side-mirrors, and i think that they might actually have different ways of mounting, so those instructions i found might not work. i dunno though, i bet you'll figure out how to take em off, i couldnt but i was afraid to apply much force cause i didnt want to break my mirrors. also, if you order the mirror by itself, by looking at the back you might be able to figure out how its attached to the motor assembly.

good luck
