DIY Radio/Window power door open thing?

hey guys, haven't posted here in little bit, and pretty sure this question has not been posted. Anyhow, on a few of my freinds cars- Jetta, Ranger and a few others- when the car is turned off and the key is pulled out of the ignition, the windows are still powered and the radio remains on, until a door is opened, but it might be on a timer too, not sure. is there any diy for this? Theres got to be one somewhere on the net, maybe even on this board, I just can't find it. any help would be appreciated, thanks guys

it shouldn't be TOO hard to do... i remember my grandparent's old cadillac had the same feature -- the accessories would run after you remove the key for up to 10 minutes, or until you open the driver's door, whichever came first. i don't know any of the technical details, but a basic solution is to put a capacitor between the fuse box and the window switch. find someone with some more electrical knowledge to help you out... good luck

thanks for the replys guys. you're right, it can't be that hard, its just somethine between the fuses, capacitor, and the dome light. I fear it being on when the ignition key is removed may hinder this diy though. theres got to be someone on this board who knows how to wire this thing. If not, I won't pay to get it done, its really just something to do, later

a capacitor would hardly move the windows nor power the radio...its pretty much a microcontroller based system that is on all the time (just like your alarm) or a purely hardware based circuit (555 timer and a bunch of other components)...

for a microcontroller based system...it would be pretty easy since you program what you want to happen...straight forward but requires a lot of time for programming and testing...

hardware based requires a lot of thinking...

trust me..if you really want to do this and don't have a clue on what a mosfet really is...then don't do it...

I don't care about the radio but the windows not working really pisses me off. Both of my previous accords had the window feature and one of the accords was a 93 for doggy's sake! It just goes to show you how many little cuts are made in the car to keep the price down. No big deal though, just a little annoying.

Wow I thought I was the only one who noticed this and was frustrated by it but I guess im not alone.
I had a rental a few weeks ago and it had this feature and I loved it.
Does the Clifford alarm do this for you?, cause if it does then I think I will get it.

clifford alarm system eh? Well, it must just be specific models of that alarm that come with that feature- so I just figure out what that feature is and see if I can install it seperately. Already got this exspesive-*** viper alarm, don't want to get rid of it

k, guys, the feature is simply called Extended Accessory Power, and the feature is optional, as well as included in several clifford alarm systems. It works on a 5 minute timer and allows the the power for the windows and radio to stay on for that alloted amount of time. sounds like a microcontroller or something fancy. I couldn't find anyone that sells something like this individually, I'm personally going to e-mail Viper and see if they have any options like this I can add. later
