Are these universal or would I need a specific one for a '91 Civic Si Hatch with a '96 Integra Type R swap?
My neighbor has this set up and she asked me if I could find her one.. I'm trying to get the lowdown to begin my search.
Anyone?

Depends on where the cat is. If it is the down pipe then need to replace that. Some cars have more than one cat for instance the WRX has 3. I mean you would need to find out where the cat is before you did any mods.

Apparently, in this situation.. There is no cat, so how would that issue be addressed?
Would cutting the exhaust and welding one into it work?

Okay, I think that there are cats made for specific applications and there are universal cats made for a certain pipe diameter. If it's a swap, then get a universal one 'cause a stock one might not fit. Either the stock one for the '91 Civic Si Hatch or a stock one for the '96 Integra Type R. So... Just look for a cat that will accomodate the pipe diameter of the exhaust system that's on that car now.
Try to cut the pipes below the heat shield. The cat will get hot and you don't want to feel this heat under your seat when inside the car. Also, try to get a cat whose length is no more than the length of the heat shield. Now, don't just cut and weld. You could do that, but it's kinda messy IMO. Cut and weld on flanges. Then bolt together. Use gaskets and good hardware too.
