CUT FRONT STRUTS????
whats up with the whole cut front strut thing.... im new to the 7thgens, please dont flame me on this one... i have a 2002 dx, and im about to put my springs on (neuspeed race), whats with the cutting thing??? do i have to do something i dont know about???????
oaky.. you now how lowerin springs are shorter? the concept was that the stock struts were long (made for the stock springs height) the concept is cut the top off the rod to a length that would accomedate the shorter spring without haveing to sacrafice the risk of blowing your stock struts cause the compression is the same as stock(hopefully) and rethread the cut off to fit the nut...that's about it

if you cut them you would have a less chance of blowing them because they aren't as compressed with non cut shocks.... let me explain this way...
with oem springs on oem shocks, the shocks are almost fully decompressed because the car sits so high. you put lowering springs and the shocks are probably half-way decompressed since the car sits lower.
if you use lowering springs with cut shocks then its short enough so that it's almost fully decompressed. i know i'm not explaining too well but hopefully you understand. if you dont search for bec tec struts because this is what their struts are based on. they are just shorter versions of OEM struts.

hmm interesting first time I have heard this but it makes sense, just cut the top rod part down to what it should be dropping and u don't have the compression from the difference in ride hight. Shouln't u wait till they have settled though and u have an accurate measurement on what height to cut at though?

well some springs dont really settle, neuspeed, eibach and goldlines... so it would be easier to do it when you get your springs installed. ya i just found out about this from bec tec, not exactly sure if its fool proof tho cause you still have different spring rates from stock with lowering springs.

Oh yeah, that would work. Good idea! See this diagram: Front Shock Absorber All you'de have to do is cut off as much as the spring is shorter. Wait though, you'de need to know how much shorter it is when compressed. Not when it's extended. Say you buy a spring that lowers 1". Just cut off 1" from the top of the strut (the part that's threaded) and then re-thread it. See how the top part is a smaller diameter though? You might need to use different hardware after re-threading or maybe you could make it look just like that with a ______. What the hell is that called? You know, it spins the part and you have these cutting tools that scrape away at the surface of whatever is spinning. Argh! A... Starts on M I think. !@#$, I give up.
Who is familiar with working on shocks? we need the advice of a shock expert like a motorcycle mechanic or something. I don't think you can just shorten the shaft, theres something about pre-load that there has to be some sort of sag you have to account for too.
Can't explain it but someone who knows about shocks should know. Its not as easy as shortening the shaft.
