AEM CAI HELP....

AEM CAI HELP....
Ok - so I am a relative newcomer to doing installs/mods myself and I fought with the CAI last night for about 2 hours. Couple of things came up - 1, it's extremely close to the hood, should I be worried? 2, the mounting points did not line up all together that well - particularly the top point on the upper bar. Did anyone else have a tough time with this? 3, the clearances are very small - should I worry about rubbing in the future, will it move as it "settles in"?
I reset the ECU but it didn't seem to help, it sounds like the car is getting too much air and the cars bogs a bit under hard power.
Just let me know if you have experienced any of these things or if there is someting I can do to "fix" the issues.

1.) After driving around for awhile, open your hood and check if it has hit anything, if not, then you are ok.
2.) The only thing I can think of right away is not to tighten all the bolts down one at a time. What I mean is, before you start to tighten everything up, make sure all the bolts are in their places and are at least half way in. Then start tightening them from various places (like you would with lug nuts). You get what I mean?
2.) If you can't move the intake with your hand and its not touching anything at all, then you should be okay. Just every once inawhile check to see if its getting loose, other then that, you should be ok.
It does take some time for the ECU to adjust to the new settings, even after you have reset it. Just cruise around and maybe drive it hard once in awhile. I read somewhere that you need to drive for like 100 miles for the ECU to adjust itself to the new intake, but I'm not quite sure on the number.

When I put mine in, everything seemed to go in very nicely. The mounting points lined up with out too much effort on my part.

DaPipeLayer is right. the intake is high @ first don't worry about that.
i found with the aem intake to avoid install hassels start from the bottom @ the filter and build it up to the throttle body. the first time i installed an itake i went top to bottom and it was not lined up.bottom to top always works.
as long as the intake is firmly positioned and the hose clamps are tight you'll be fine.
after about 2 tanks of gas the ecu will be working fine. i have aem cai with a bypass valve, after the ecu was reconfiguired i gained gas mileage.

I actually did print out your DIY - and the AEM instructions are pics as well - some anyway. I have an EX, 5sp and I bought the AEM CAI model #21-500 - I think. I got it from Rob so I know its right - it was just a bit unsettling. I have done Mustangs and Camaros - as well as some older VW's but this was the tightest I have seen. Today it seemed to get better, it still sounds like it's sucking too much air and it gulps/wisps when I shut it down. The power is good and it's definetly bot hitting the hood tat I can see - but it is close.
I stopped by the dealer - one of the guys there has a modded up EX as well and his looked pretty much the same.

does the pipe curve to the wheel well or towards the front of the car?
you do got to mess with it a little, i got a little gash on the side where
it rubs against the battery tie down rod. it looks like it will hit but it wont...

Toretto - the lower pipe stays to the front of the car... just behind the radiator and in front of the trany.
I believe the Injen CAI can go into the empty space just behind the front bumper and wheel well, but requires some cutting away of the splash guard.

My AEM CAI has rubbed slighty since it was installed a bout a year ago. there is a small part on the top of the intake with no paint. THERES ALSO A DENT in my hood from accidently shutting it to hard 1 time. so i got a nice dent in my hood and rub's through the paint both on the intake and on the underside of my hood. its cool though

I've had the hissing noise for almost 5,000miles when I shut off.So i asume it's normal. You shouldn't have any clearance hood problems, i have a lot of distance from hood to intake bend. Only problem i had installing my AEM CAI was taking off the tranny bolt. YOur ca shouldn't seen sluggish after installing it, never experienced that. Just do some highway driving.
Man, I guess no one here really drove a 2 stroke bike before. You can sure hear the intake on them. When you're hard on the throttle, you'll initially hear a bog but it's soon gone. The intake noises are normal! When I shut my car off, it hisses as well. I haven't had any problems with clearances or installing. It was a breeze.
the hissing noise is just a normal running condition of your engine. The reason why you never notice it with the stock intake/resinator, is because all intake noise is baffled. So now with just a straight pipe, you are hearing all the little noises and sounds of your engine running normally.
If you got some time, take the upper intake pipe off so you can see the TB, turn on your engine and have someone rev for you... you'll understand why you hear hissing and all the other dynamics of the sounds from the intake.
