Broken Fuel Door
Broken Fuel Door
Hi am a new member and own a 04 Civic Hybrid, I have a broken Fuel door. When i go and push down on the button nothing happens. I was wondering if anyone else on here has had this problem and does the $20 piece from http://www.fueldoorfix.com really work, because i am really not too sure what the actually problem is. Any feed back or suggestions is greatly appreciated. Thanks

pretty sure this is an ad but if not get the correct parts you need from a dealership dont cop out on cheap stuff for your car. That how stuff falls apart again

Re: Broken Fuel Door
I ordered the fdf for my 05 (the fuel door still works) I thought about clipping in onto my functioning cable if possible in case it does break.
If it is broken near the release handle inside like they show, the fdf may be better than original and a lot easier fix.

Re: Broken Fuel Door
I haven't actually taken anything apart yet to look at, more or less have just been doing a lot of research. It seems like this is a pretty common part that fails on this generation civic. I hope you don't mind me asking but about how long ago did you replace this and have been using the FDF kit. I def. don't wanna put out the $200-300 dollars and have the dealer fix it if its just going to go out again.

Re: Broken Fuel Door
Until today I had not installed the fdf collar (my fuel door release still works properly)
I was not sure if it would fit over a working cable but it did fit fine, so it can be added as a preventative measure for those who have a still working system.
I would take the covers off and have a look to see if it is broken in the usual location. If it is I would imagine the fdf would be all you need, changing the cable would be a major undertaking.

Hey I had the same problem with my 02 civic like 3ish years ago and I got the part from fdf and it works great. Never had another problem with it and it's still working to this day. I'd recommend getting it. I'd just make sure that the problem is the part right under the lever and if that's it this will fix it.

Re: Broken Fuel Door
I have an 03 Civic Hybrid and used the fix on it when my fuel door went south. I found the hardest part was getting all of the panels off in order to install it without breaking the tabs. Actually putting the fix on was only a few seconds of time. My fuel door has functioned well since I installed it two years ago. The person who designed and markets the FDF was actually a Honda parts manager at our local stealership.

Re: Broken Fuel Door
You have to admit it is a simple fix to address a common problem most likely present only in the 01-05 models.
I was not sure if Honda had done something to resolve it on the later models or not... so I went ahead and ordered one for my 05 just in case. Actually had it for a while.
This thread gave me the motivation to tear it apart and install it as preventive measure (and the fact that my trunk lock would not unlock)
I think it is a great fix.

Re: Broken Fuel Door
My '05 Civic just had its fuel door bust. When I press the button, nothing happens. I open the trunk and pull back the wall cover to play with the door til it pops open for me. It seems like if i twist the tube that leads into the door, that it will pop it open and if i twist it the other way I can shut the door.
It's a pain not to have it open on its own, so I'm gonna try FDF.
Thanks for this post, I was just about to ask the same question.
