Emissions problems after Mods...
I need help! I just bought a 96 EX(D16Y8) that had a motor swap. I've spent a couple weeks working. It idles right, runs smooth, and the light is off, so I went to take Emissions and failed for NOx.
Its running lean (high NOx) and I've done a few checks:
>>Fuel Pressure is in spec, injectors working
>>Air/Fuel O2 sensor is in range and switching
>>ECT sensor calculated value is close to actual value.
>>MAP sensor calculated value is only 9 inHg when actual manifold pressure is 14 inHg
>>EGR system is MISSING
I know the EGR is designed to reduce NOx, but its use reduces specific heat ratio(robs power). This is the only reason I can think it was removed. The car came W/O EGR and an aftermarket exhaust.]
My question is; Do I need to go out and rig up the EGR to pass, or can I fix my MAP problem and the PCM will run the car rich enough to pass emissions? Also, anything else I should check/ am missing?
Appreciate the help!

Re: Emissions problems after Mods...
does the new engine actually have a place for the egr? and is there a blocking plate or something, cause if there is, you can just find a junkyard valve and bolt it on for inspection, then take it back off.
Re: Emissions problems after Mods...
I'm pretty familiar with what I would be looking for in terms of the blocking plate, etc and I don't see any area for it. I have aftermarket exhaust on it, but it came with the car so I'm not sure what all was taken off. There is a blocked off plug in the exhaust, but I am starting to wonder if it is a generic bung for an O2, like in universal cats etc. I dont know. I may have to wait to see another one at work and scope out the setup... damn...
