Newb has a few questions....
Wassup guys, i'm kinda a newb driving a 2001 Civic LX Sedan A/T Tranny. looking into some modz and DIY's. I don't Race or anything. just looking to get a little better performance for everyday driving and having a nice ride. here's what i was looking in to doing i've searched and browsed the forums almost everyday for a while now. Great Site! but just looking in to some pointers and advice. for what im thinking of doing. worth it, or not, best brand to go with etc. i'm also on a budget but don't wanna "get what you pay for" going cheap. and trying to keep my car Legal and want mods that will help keep the car running strong in the long run. i appreciate all your help.
- Shaved Trunk lock or Star Lock Keyhole? (planning on putting in some sounds)
- LED Gauge Cluster (My vic is green, wanted to have green O-domoters with maybe white needles but not quite sure how to do this as far as getting the needle a different color and keeping all other lights stock color {seat belt, turn signals, High beam, etc})
- Drop (want to drop, but don't want to worry bout scraping and still look good. best springs and how low?)
- Rim Recommendations? (what size rim, tire, and to go with what drop?)
- Short Ram, i know there are alot of posts...but is it bad to go with a Ebay pipe and AEM filter?
- Exhaust (Street Legal. looking for a lower pitch sound. something that sounds good at idle, cruising and high end speeds? and that sounds better than stock)
- Headers (is this necessary with a aftermarket exhaust? worth it or can do with out?)
- where i live 35% is the darkest "Legal" tint. does anyone know how dark this actually is? would i get any privacy from it? want black tint but if i want more privacy might have to go with that "metallic look" but don't wanna match colors due to the tint.
please help out a new Civic Fan. thanks guys!

Re: Newb has a few questions....
i got the trunk lock keyhole shaved from bodyshop, be sure they weld on a piece of metal in the hole, no bondo and filler crap. but repainting the trunk = $$. i also disconnected the trunk release by the driver seat and put in the remote trunk popper from 2001 accord. its a direct swap, but you need aftermarket alarm with third channel to use it.
the 01-02 clusters open up pretty easily for leds, you just have to wire em in behind the numbers. white needles may work, you would have to strip the red paint off and paint the bottom of the needle white instead, then add white leds directly under it.
eibach prokit, 1 inch drop is as low as i would go for daily driving and no scrape worries. you also need aftermarket shocks rated to work with lowered car, like tokico hp. and a front/rear camber kit like SPC to align the lowered car.
rims, stick with stock size 15 inch and try to get something lighter than the stock 18 lb rims. if you go bigger or heavier, car will be very slow and bumpy ride.
short ram, stick with name brand like aem v2. ebay pipes never fit right.
exhaust, pretty much the best sounding is RSR. quietest is apexi WSII. those are the only two id consider because they are low profile. if you want a huge can, there are plenty of other options.
header, stock already works best. increasing the tube diameter only causes power loss with such a small engine. if you want something that looks different, go with dc sports header which is exactly same size as stock.
35% is fairly dark. in the sun, you can still see inside the car a bit, but on a cloudy day it looks completely blacked out. go with name brands like llumar or 3M. heres my 35% and it faded quite a bit, its almost 6 yrs old now. any darker and i wouldnt be able to see well enough at night. 35 is perfect
