Help! no fuel to engine.

Help! no fuel to engine. I was driving on the interstate the other day and my car stopped getting gas, and shut off. so i pulled off and when i tried to restart, no luck. before this it has had a pulsing idle for months, and it got worse til it shut down. i thought it may be the fuel pump at first, but i hear it running when i try to start. i replaced the engine 6 months ago and the old one did the same thing. what could it be?

have you checked the fuel pressure? maybe there is a clog in one of the lines, or the fuel pump either isnt working right or was installed wrong
