Idle at 2500 rpm when cold normal?
Idle at 2500 rpm when cold normal?
I have a 2000 civic hatchback for a winter car. Today i started it up and it was about 1 degree celcious (just above freezing) and after my first take off my revs stayed at about 2500 for about 2-3 mins until it warmed up a bit. Is this normal?

Re: Idle at 2500 rpm when cold normal?
was it just above freezing when you noticed that?
also, his car is a little older, also a different engine.
my 02 does rev a little higher when it's cold out...usually in the morning, then calms down...
i believe this is normal, as it helps the engine warm up.

yea, its called idle up, higher revs are normal, and new cars straight from the factory will idle as high as 3k..... i wouldnt call it abnormal

mine has gone to 2500 before in cold weather below freezing. so long as it drops as the car starts to warm up, its fine. i think it also depends on altitude a little.

it's kind of like an automatic choke, they have to call it something different for newer cars... mine does this around 1500 rpms... it's supposed to guys, don't worry :-D
