I just noticed 30k or every time you change plug wires. NAPA had japanese distributor cap/rotor so I bought them both, about 38 dollars total.

its a good thing to change, there are no symptoms. cap on the old 92 accord here just melted and threw the timing off about 20 degrees. one second the car was driving normal, next second i was stranded on the side of the road with the engine just making humming sounds. good thing the engine was okay.

But I'm having the same issue, that's why I decided to change it. The old rotar was very worn, and the electrodes or whatever were covered with caked on carbon (I think it was). Yeah, power loss and lowered gas mileage are also symptoms. I thought it was my clutch going out, but then the car started dying and I put 2-and-2 together so I changed the cap and rotar. So yeah, my car is dying randomly. It's throwing a code but I can't hook up a reader until friday. The new rotar/cap DID increase my power back to what it's supposed to be, but I'm thinking one or more plugs is saturated in carbon because the car is still dying when accelerating. Plugs will foul up with carbon if they are producing a weak spark or misfiring. Am I making sense?
I checked my gas cap to make sure that wasn't causing it, and I noticed it had no pressure. WTF? If it's not the carbon on the plugs as I mentioned above, it might be a fuel pressure issue.

you can always get a fuel pressure gauge and check that. low pressure either caused by bad gas cap, bad fuel pump, or clogged fuel filter usually. plugs are $2 each for some copper ngk v-power, just change it if you think theyre bad

Well that would equate to a symptom, no?

No, plugs are ngk stock with only like 5k on them. But, I gotta check for carbon this weekend....

Re: When should rotar/distrubuter be replaced?
i kinda doubt its the fp60 man. i started using it when my car had around 50k on it, now 3yrs/30k later of CONSTANT (and i mean every day usage) of fp60 and lc20, often more than the normal dose cause i always squirt some extra in, my car runs better than ever. im at 85k miles and it accelerates better than when i drove it off the dealer lot. fp60 does not dislodge anything, it is a very slow and gentle cleaner and it dissolves particles into solution. and really you shouldnt be complaining, that fuel filter is in the engine bay easily accessed. if i want to change mine, i have to take the whole fuel pump apart.

I'll give it a shot this weekend. I got any extra from majestic. I think it was like 15 bucks, half what the dealership charges.

Re: When should rotar/distrubuter be replaced?
So I replaced my filter about an hour ago and noticed the old filter had a bunch of fuel in it but it didn't drain unless I blew it. Now I've replaced like 3 of these filters, and that was the only time the filter didn't leak out fuel everywhere. I had less than 1 oz. of fuel come out total through the whole precedure! Point being: I think filter was clogged at a little over 30k. So Honda may be right on the money when they say replace at 30.
As for the plugs, I cleaned them. They were coated with carbon at the base of the threads. I was probably generating weak sparks due to the distributor cap/rotor having had 120k miles on them (!), causing carbon buildup.
Car runs sweet now. My power is back! But then again... it did get cold here in Reno, but despite that I know my car still runs better.

I also want to add that if you're doing a major tuneup, you gotta consider replacing all these parts: Plugs, wires, distributor cap, rotor, and possibly the ignition coil. I mention that because I bet most people (including me previously) only consider plugs and coils.
