bad morning
bad morning
my civics been making some creaking noises the past couple days when i turn the wheel, go over bumps, or even get in and out of the car. so this morning i took the time to jack it up and give a good inspection of the suspension, and to my surprise my drivers side lower control arm is cracked badly, across the top and all the way down the side and partly underneath. there is about 3/4 of a inch of metal that is holding it together. put me in a bad mood
. The scarry thing too is, i just drove out of state yesterday and back (about 8 hours of driving). It has to of been cracked for 2 years and just slowly been getting worse. Because two years ago i had to swerve to avoid some idiot, and crashed hard into a curb, resulting in having to buy new wheels my rim was bent so bad. Thats the worst accident my civics been in. Oh well, im not driving my car anymore until the part comes in tuesday and i can install it. Just thought id vent a little hah

Re: bad morning
you gotta admit though, you know honda made there parts pretty well if you can drive on a damaged control arm for two years.
my 14yr old integra has less problems then my friends 04 mercedes and my other friends 05 audi.

yeah man. I cant believe it lasted so long being damaged. I had a few pics of it, but forgot my camera at my girls house. ill post a couple tomorrow just so you can see how cracked it is, cant believe its still functioning. Drove the car a few blocks just to get it back to my house, now just waiting on the damn part. Gonna suck having to find rides to work for a couple days, oh well. I think im just going with one oem arm. Found a place that only wants $85, others wanted like $140. Glad to hear its an easy job, sure looks like one.

Re: bad morning
You have made me consider giving my suspension a check myself, as I have heard the kind of creaking you talk about, mainly when I go over a bump, not so much turning corners. I hear it occassionally, but on certain roads at the same point it will happen almost assuredly...
Re: bad morning
Not just Mercedes though, Audi too, like you said. Everything has gone downhill with cars in general. It's all about cramped engine compartements and no-touch engines (8th gen civic). ****, even the 6th gen and below civics are designed intentionally over complicated so that the price of the vehicle is like twice what it should be, and maintenance takes 5 times longer than necessary. What I'm trying to say is that instead of Honda tech's researching how to simplify and make their vehicles user-friendly, they instead research how to over complicate everything and makes things user unfriendly! No I'm not joking. Want proof? Look at the fuel filter on a 6th gen Civic. There is loads of space around it. Space = freedom to make things simple and reliable. In this case, the fuel filter housing is designed with all sorts of bullshit twists and turns and the bolts are retardedly placed. Somebody had to sit there and think of a way to make it a cluster****, and people like you and me are paying for it. I could improve that design in a ****ing second--2 bolts and a band, end of story. And don't give me that crap about how all those stampings and twists and turns are about making the car bend a certain way in a collision, I don't buy it for a second. Oh sure, that's true to a point, but only to a point.
Go look at a early 90's Volvo engine compartment.
HONDA DOESN'T LOVE YOU.

Re: bad morning
For the fronts? I didn't know anyone did. I know there are a few manufacturers for the rears but not the front. And are they control arms or trailing arms in the rear? I can never remember the actual, correct term.
Re: bad morning
Too bad you aren't around my old place, I got 2 control arms just sitting there, I'm going to throw them out. Assuming, of course, the control arms is what the camber kit replaces.
Re: bad morning
just drove it 8 miles to where im doing the work on it in the morning. damn it was one sketchy ride. so much creeking and moaning. haha nerve racking. But yeah, honda makes some good parts i guess.
