Are valve covers swapable?

Some of you may know that I just bought an EX head for my swap the problem is, I thought that i could just swap my LX valve cover, since the EX head that I bought did not come with one? I just found out on this site that the EX and LX valve covers were not swapable. Is this true? When I looked on Ebay for a new valve cover, the site gave me an example http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/POWDE...mZ290057766112
I'm just confused now because the site says that this is the valve cover for a D16y8, I thought that the EX head was a D17A2, which would be this one http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...2589&rd=1&rd=1
Please help me straighten this thing out so I can properly buy a new valve cover for my new head! Thanks for the help guys!

Re: Are valve covers swapable?

ok wait....what kind of motor do u have. the d16 and d17 are two different motors ok. i dont know about you buying an ex head to swap so sorry but if you have a d17... the valve cover, wether it be lx or ex, must be for a d17 engine, not a d16. Or maybe you just got me confused so...clear it up a little and maybe i can help.

Re: Are valve covers swapable?

I have a D17 LX. I just bought an EX head to do the swap. So I was just wondering if I could use my LX valve cover to my new EX head. Hope that clarifys everything.

i dont know of anyone here that has done the swap and not kept the ex cover. i KNOW for a fact that you cant swap previous years so why would a d17 be any different??? usdually the ex covers are taller due to the lifter set for vtec

Well actually...

The D16 and D17 valve covers are in fact interchangable, technically. The bolts holes line up and the head is sealed. But when you put the D16 on a D17 you won't be able to check your oil. And when you put the D17 on the D16 you have to plug the dip stick hole.
