DIY: Carbon Fiber Hood Install

Materlials Needed:
- 10mm socket
- Pry Bar
- Carbon Fiber Hood

Step 1:
Remove your stock hood. Start by detaching the washer nozzle lines from the hood.

Step 2:
Place some rags between the hood and the car. This keeps you from scratching the paint.

Step 3:
Remove the 4 bolts(2 on each side) with your 10mm socket.

Step 4:
Even though the bolts are removed the hood stays attached to the hinges. There is an epoxy type material on the hood. Use a crowbar to pry it off. It's really easy.

Step 5:
Remove the Hood.

Step 6:
Open the box containing your new hood.

Step 7:
Clean up your mess of peanuts.

Step 8:
Remove the bubble wrap.

***NOTICE HUGE FVCK UP ON THE HOOD'S CORNER AND CRY FOR A FEW MINUTES***

***GO TO REHAB, GET TREATMENT, GO BACK TO INSTALLING YOUR HOOD***

Step 9:
Bolt the new hood onto your car. Shut the hood and use the levelers to make the hood sit evenly on the car.

Step 10:
Stand back and enjoy the great job you did on the hood.

The people who packaged the hood(airborne express) dropped it. I know this because the broken pieces were in the box.

It's a Kaminari OEM Carbon Fiber Hood. I got it from a member on the site for $600 shipped. I love it. It is very light and very well made. There was no cracking when i installed the hood pins either. It held together very well.

Interesting, most Kaminari hoods don't require hood pins.

What would you know about that? Hood pins are for safety to keep the hood from flying off.

Talk with Kaminari and they stated that their hoods structure integrity doesn't require hood pins.

I don't care what Kaminari says. Carbon fiber hoods are 1/3 the weight of stock hoods. All it takes is for the latch to become a little lose at high speeds for the hood the come flying off. Or, even worse, if you get in a head on car accident, the hood could fly through the window decapitating the driver. Hood pins are vital for safety. I dont plan on dying anytime soon.

WRONG, it might shatter but it is still more likely to bend and break off at the hinges. This $hit has happened to people. It's not just another theory or story. Many accidents involving CF Hoods result in the hood still being intact. And people have been killed by their hood tearing through the windshield. It doesn't crumple like stock hoods.

Question Question?

How much weight difference was there between your OEM hood and the CF hood? Did you by chance have a scale?

Cheers,
ChiZX

I left them on my stock hood and put it in storage. I dont want the washers to ruin the flow of the hood.

I am running my eBay hood without hod pins. I get no rattles, no vibration, no wobble, no shaking, whatever word you use to describe it. The hood I received has the same reinfocements inside as the OEM hoods. the bracket is identical. I get all the compliments, and have no fear of the hood flying off my car. My hood = WIN!

btw, the hood looks damn sexy fly!!!

This is cool. Sucks that it got messed up, especially with fragile on the box. At least you can't notice it.
