Brakes... Using pedal and e-brake question

I'm just wondering if the brake pedal and the parking brake handle operate the same breaks on the Civic. I had the e-brake on while moving a few feet twice. Nothing harder than if I were decelerating under normal speeds (using the brakes and not the gears). Just wondering if my car is gonna be alright. I was probably going under 5 mph at both times.

As far as I know, it'll be fine except the brake may burn a lil'... just make sure it's up next time. It's happened to me a few times. I dunno about the braking system for the e-brake, sorry.

I think the e-brake is simply connected to the rear brakes with cables. You pull the e-brake up and it tightens the cables and locks the rear brakes. I would think the harm is a little wear on the brakes. I backed out the garage and made it out my driveway before I realized I had forgot to release it.

Your cool man happens to the best of us ... just dont make habbit of it.

The Ebrake is only hooked up to the rear brakes not the fronts at all and if you ever need to adjust it make sure you do it at the wheels. have not done this myself but I have heard that adjusting it at the handle is a very dumb idea

yah the ebrake is attached to the rear brakes. on the highways when im speeding i pull the e with the button held in so i dont flash the taillights when i zoom past cops ive done this countless times. if you dont hold the button in the brakes lock on and you can cause some majr damage but as long as the button is held in its the same as braking only your taillights dont flash. wouldnt use it for regular braking but if there is a cop just pull it.

Um... Unless I'm retarded then that's not true. The button is not hooked up to anything electrical. It's simply a little place holder. When you lift up the emergency brake it disengages this other little switch and that turns on the brake lights. Try it yourself. If you ever pulled on the E-Brake while zooming past cops then your brake lights came on as well. Whoops! Better not do that anymore. You can disengage that little switch though, then you'de have a pretty good idea.

I don't think the E-Brake is hooked up to the parking brake lights. Also the button is nothing electrical, its just mechanism that helps you hold the E-Brake for you so you don't have to do it. Its pretty hard for me to pull and hold my E-Brake hard enough to make the car stop fast enough, so I usually just pull it up, and leave it for a second or two and release it and do it again if necessary.
just my two cents..
