vtec question

I read somewhere on here that the Vtec kicks in at about 4500 RPM (correct me if I'm wrong), I have never had my car fast enough to get to that point though. So if it is set at a point rarely reached what good is it? and really, what is Vtec anyway?

OH MY GOD Your gonna get flamed for asking what VTEC really is.

I must say that if you own a Honda and do not know what VTEC stands for or what it does you must have been living under a rock.

I'm also guessing that you own a automatic and not a 5 spd. because I have a 5 spd. and I hit VTEC in any gear I want it is very easy for a manial to do that, it is very hard for a automatic to reach vtec level unless you stomp om the gas and never let off. Honda's computers set the shift point kind of low for automatic's under normal driving conditions to save you gas money (wasn't that nice of them!). Our type of vtec is used mainly for gas mileage purposes and not for great imporvments in horsepower or speed. While VTEC helps out a little in speed, it takes a lot of things working to gether for it to kick in, the honda computer has to have the right levels of operating temp, oil temp, and many other things for the vtec to kick in.

But if you really want a detailed look into vtec the all you have to do is SEARCH, SEARCH, and then when your done with that SEARCH again.

Look under the keyword of VTEC. You will find many things in the forums about it.

Well since your car doesn't red line at 4500, I don't think there's a problem w/ the car. Perhaps a problem w/ your driving. Although on normal days I shift around the same range.
