The differences between the D17A2 (EX) and the D17A1 are the exhaust header, the shield, exhaust pipe A (one with the cat), exhaust pipe B (the one between the cat and muffler), primary heated O2 sensor, and the secondary O2 sensor (and I assuming the harnesses for each).

Past that, mounting looks the same, even the brackets. I would say the hardest part would be the O2 sensors.

mohawkboom check the owners manual. it will show you in the emmissions section how the two cats are different. there is a second o2 sensor for the ex and cat that is not equiped on the base models. that should be the only major problem.

I'm gonna check with the dealerhip see if the DX/LX's have the ecu wiring for the 02sensors.. I Know we don;t have the wiring for the tach..maybe we do for the 02 sensors..If all else fails I'm gonna switch to a Carburated system use the fuel injector holes for Nitrous...j/k (although I've seen it done to great effect (unit body CRX running high 11's)

I am now sure why everyone keeps saying that one of the models only has 1 o2 sensor. ALL MODELS HAVE 2 O2 SENSORS!!! The problems you will encounter by doing this swap are; the secondary O2 sensor on the LX/DX wont reach the location that it is on the EX/HX, and the EX/HX cat won't clear the LX/DX front sway bar. For the first one, you could either buy a o2 sensor extension (I think some aftermarket header companies make these), or make one of your own. If you make your own, solder ALL connections (this could cause incorrect o2 sensor reading and the car wont run as it should). For the sway bar, either buy a EX/HX sway bar (about $85 from Honda), or buy one from Neuspeed or someone like that.

Also, your exhaust systems will be different Buy a cat-back exhaust for an EX.

Every new car has 2 oxygen sensors. 1 before and one after. This is becuase they run off of the OBD-II ecu system operator. this is what makes ulev capable. much more efficient, get the carriage pipe with stock cat and bolt it to the headers. then just bolt up the exhaust. it will work the only thing you will need to do is lengthen the o2 wire for the second sensor.
