Rev Rev...

So, I was wondering whether putting a lightweight flywheel and a pulley system in the car would allow the engine rev to drop quicker when you want to change gears...in other words...if you can get your rev to drop quicker when you depress the clutch, would it in return also allow you to Rev up quicker too. (accelerate with more horsepower) I was driving in my car the other day accelerating and was in second gear and pressed the clutch when I was at about 6k RPM's and it seemed like it took forever for the engine to go back down to idle from 6k. So, would putting a lightweight flywheel, lightweight pulleys, and things of that nature, on to the engine cause the engine to go back to idle faster? Thusly, in return, allowing you to get the engine up to, say, 6k RPM's faster?

If you decide to upgrade the flywheel, do not go "too" much lighter than stock. The D-Series motor does not put out very much low-end power which will make stoplights and traffic very fun. Pulleys are alright I guess, but don't expect any significant gains......

yeah, I was wondering about that...the whole, not so much power thing. but i figured it would be better than nothing...but what would happen if the flywheel was too light, and what would you suggest if I were to go that route? Thanks by the way for the input!

I personally would try to find one between the weights of 10lb-11lbs, I can't remember what stock weight is though sorry....if the flywheel is too light, you will lose nearly any of the bottom end power the D-Series puts out. This means you will have to rev up to like 2-2.5k rpms to leave a stoplight/sign. Engine repsonse will be alot nicer in the mid-high rpm ranges. Brands like Exedy and Fidanza make high quality drivetrain parts.
