Problems wiring to Ciggerete lighter
today i tried to wire some neon into the wire coming out of the back of the cigerette lighter. There were two wires, one Black, one yellow, i tried wiring to the yellow one first, and then turned on the car, but the neon did not turn on. i then turned off the car, and wired into the black wire, turned on the car, and again, the neon did not turn on. When wiring, i stripped a bit of the cigerette lighters wire off, then wrapped about an inch of the neons + wire around the stripped part. I had the Ground taped to some metal around the back of the cigerette lighter...
mainly wondering which of the 2 wires i should have the wire going to, and if the power should be constant whent he cars turned on or if maybe somthing needs to be plugged into the cigerrete lighter?
thx.

the neons power transformer had a ciggerete adapter plug on it, i just chopped that off, then stripped the wire off of that, so i figure it wouldnt be too much voltage. Is There a diff wire that i could try? or a better way to attach the wires without saudering?

i didnt have it grounded to the back of the ciggerete lighter i had it taped onto...

a peice of metal like the one with the screws on that pic. the only thing i can think of that would go wrong witht eh ground is that the adhesive from the taped rubbed off to much on the wire.... but i dont think thats too probable.

i will try that tomorrow, i have one other questions for now though, i have a 12V illuminated rocket switch, which i want to turn the neon on and off. it has 3 prongs, Supply Volts, On ACC. and earth ground. Is their a specific kind of wire i need to run to the switch, or will any do? am i correct to think that supply volts is a wire going from the power wire in the car to the switch, the on ACC is going from the neon positive to the switch, and the Earth Ground is a wire ( does it need to be a specific kind? ) that goes from the switch to any metal in the car? Also, the rocker switch came with "solderless terminals" i was wondering how exctly they work, it has a circular blue rubber end, and then goes out to have 2 metal curls on each side of the otehr end. thx. EDIT: also, would i need a fuse in between the connection from the Illuminated switch and the power wire in the car? if so, what kinda fuse?

oiy!
Wiring the neon to a illumated switch, then to the cig. lighter power wire.
Here's a diagram for the switch.
Grab the +12vDC from the yellow wire from the cig ligher.
Then just ground the wires with the black wire that's bolted to the frame.

i think my neon got messed somehow, i couldnt get it to work with the transistor, so then i tired just getting it to work with the tube and couldnt, i got the switch so it lights up though :-D and i made it so it hangs out. Im going to try and buy new neon tomorrow and wire it into the switch that i got to work. One last question though, can u wire a ground wire into another ground wire and that work? THX for all ur help.

Wiring a ground to another ground should work. I did that on my sound system. I have two amps and instead of having two different grounds on the chassis of the car, I just wired the second amp ground to the first amp ground terminal, and then the first's to the chassis of the car. But it has to be a good ground on the chassis though.
