High RPM at high speeds

Hi, I'm new to manual trannies.
My 2002 ex 2dr civic has to be revved up to 3500 rpm to go about 70 mph on fairly flat road. Is it normal for this car?
If so i wonder how much rpm it will require to go 100 or so ? =) Anyway didn't have the chance to test it out with all this ice on roads.

Thank you in advance.

yea thats about right... mines around there when im goin 70. its a fairly high revving car and has short gears. to go 100 ull probaby have to be in 5th gear on a flat road goin about 4500 RPMs or something around there. itll take a really long distance to get anywhere above 100 cuz our cars are so underpowered. getting to 120 will take a few miles haha

The EX has really short gear ratios so at 65 I'm at like 3100 or 3200 rpm. U can go over 100 in 4th (110 - 115?) and the top speed on our car with everything stock is about 127mph if u must know that as well.

Welcome to this site. If you would like to know anything just search this site using the search button. Almost everything that u can think of and tons of things that you cant think of have been covered already. I've only been on this site for about a year and my knowledge of cars in general and our cars has grown at least 10 fold. Enjoy this site, its a great resource and has a wealth of knowledge

I kinda figured it should be a lot different from my previous 6 cilinder accord.
Which upgrades should I look into to increase that high end power?

What did I just say about searching?????? I said if u have a Q search. Type in horsepower or something like that. Our engine doesnt make much power with ur typical bolt ons like intake, header, exhaust. If u buy all of those u would have spent about a grand and only gain maybe7-10hp. Save up for a turbo is what everyone will tell u unless u like spending lots of $ for a small ammount of power.

The car can not go any faster than 150 no matter how much power you have, rev limiter wont allow it, well actually it is the transmission.

There really is no point in going that fast, at least to make a habbit of it. I could see three or four times.

Oh yeah american civics have speed limiters so you can not go over 130, I think it, has been a topic of debate. I know for a fact that you can not go over 125-130 in a stock civic, power or ecu, not really sure. I t takes forever so I would assume lack of power plays a big role.

all automatic american civics have a speed limiter of 130 but not the manuals. the older hondas didnt have speed limiters i got my 91 accord to the very top 137 i think.

i have an 01 coupe ex 5spd.. ive wound it out to 134 ( 2 lines past 130 ) and was at roughly 5500 rpms in 5th..

i was doing it for like 20-30 seconds and stopped realizing it had no more power to go any faster.. and i did that COMPLETELY STOCK!! ( lol i did it on the test drive actually thats what they got when they let me go out by myself ) but i ended up buying it and made em check over everything , change oil , filter and tranny fluid before i signed any paper..

but i was doin it on flat ground .. outside temp was roughly 75 degrees F...windows up , sunroof on the lil vent thing..
