difference between 6th gen EX & Si exterior

Yesterday I noticed a car creeping up behind me on I-5 South as I was weaving through traffic at 75mph @ 10:00pm. If you live in the Western Washington area, this is the gap between MLK & Southcenter where it's nothing but straightaway. The car finally catches up to me and it's a black 6th gen civic. The rear tail lights were red up on top and clear on the bottom. The spoiler is the same height as the OEM 7thgen spoiler. He had a Sportline drop, 17"s, and DC exhaust. He blinked me as he passed me at around 80mph. I did a 4th gear drop and caught up with him almost immediately and we had some fun @ 100+. My question is how can you tell if it's a EX or Si. He shaved his rear emblem, but it looked and sounded like an EX. The fact that he had bolt ons and I caught up effortlessly even though my car is stock leads me to believe that it wasn't an Si that I played with. Can anyone give me some insight on the differences between the EX and Si's exterior in the rear and sides.

Well, there are some minor differences between the 6th gens themselves. the 96-98 have red and amber in their taillights along with different headlight assemblies. 96-98 headlights have more of a "frosted" or opaque look to their corners. The 99-00 civics (not just the si) have more of what they call "crystal" clear corners with an amber reflector that is trapezoidal in shape. If you llok at them, you will no what I mean.
As for the difference in the 99-00 ex and 99-00 si, the si comes with a front lip, CTR style. Also on the side it has the "DOHC VTEC" sticker. And remember the si only came in three colors, blue, black, and red. If have been in an si then you will recognize the distinctive engine sound that it makes when revving... Hope that helps....

It sounds like he may have gotten rid of any clue that it may have been an si. Everything is the same except for the badge and rims I believe. If he wasn't pulling on you you can probally bet that it was an EX. I would want everyone to know it was an Si and leave the badge.

arty you can tell easily.

1 - He has colored side skirts that match is car and a front lip spoiler.
2 - The headrests in his car have holes in them like the 2k1 EX.
3 - it says DOHC VTEC on the side
4 - its got the sport grill (little diamonds)
5 - the muffler has a stock tip (if it was stock)

any of those don't fit it was an EX.

Doh! I completely forgot that the Si has the DOHC sticker on the side of the car! Then it was an EX. I'm impressed with these new 1.7L compared to the previous 1.6L.
Hey Neo, I'm giving you props because I was inspired by you and black2k1vtec when it comes to kick @$$ sigs.

Thank you.

You can't totally rely on the Graphic aspect tho- if he shaved his Si badge whos to say he didnt save his VTEC graphics...best bet is the side skirts and his headrests, thats how I tell when I do flybys to **** people off

The Si comes with rear disk brakes and the ex comes with drums.
