I drained and refill transmission fluid.
The fluid already turned dark brown, like fresh brewed coffee, a little bit transparent still. I also found a lot of debris on the plug magnet, already. I didn't expect to find that much metal filling and gunk, especially at 16,000, thought the magnet is not very strong.
All-in-all, it was good that I did it and I'll continue doing it. I'm gonna be changing tranny fluid every 15k. Only cost $3.92 a quart of ATF-Z1 fluid, and took 2.5 qts.
What's in your automatic transmission?

I think I'll do that too when I hit 15,000 miles. Right now I'm only at 6,000. What about the plug magnet? Which part is that? The bolt that you use to drain the transmition fluid out of?

Grey: I would have thought you'd have more miles than 6k. But anyhow, it's one year for me this month. If you don't know, the magnet is on the other end of the plug, about 1 inch in length. I know you have a fetish with this magnet thing. hehe Don't be ashamed, so am I. haha. Only wished the oil plug had one also, but like i said before, the OEM oil filter has one already. I'll be sure to open one up next oil change.
Mohok: From experience, I believe it's normal wear. But you see, I did a tranny fluid change on my 95 at around 45k, after the dealer did it (I believe) at around 30k.
I started to do maintenance myself on the 95 after the first couple of three visits to the dealer, 1st at 3750, then 11750, 15k, and 30k, it started costing too much then I quit going and did stuff myself, though I'd do oil changes myself.

For anybody who wants to do it, please do so at or around 15k. Then we can compare the results. I kinda think it is uncommon. But I have no standard to compare this to.
If I do take it to the dealer for service, what am I going to say? But you know what, and I've posted this question before, I feel when I shift to D, it double engages, something with the torque converter may be whacked.
I wish I could have taken a pic of it, dammit, a relatively good digicam gone to waste!
Here's the DIY for changing your tranny fluid.
1) 3/8" ratchet, and go under your car, no jacking req'd. Look for a square 3/8" flange bolt and loosen. It was difficult for me, I actually broke the head of the MIT ratchet, (Made In Taiwan). POS. I asked a mechanic to loosen it for me.
2) Unscrew bolt and let it drain out.
3) Jack the car up from the opposite end to drain more.
4) Clean debris from magnet portion and rescrew bolt.
5) Fill 2.5 quarts of ATF-Z1, ONLY!
Congrats, your done!
Let me know your results, and your opinions, plz!

everyone with an auto should smell their atf at least once a month. You can diagnose a problem by the smell. If the fluid smells burnt, its time to take a peek
