Interior Neon Wiring

I asked this in the ICE section, but told me to post it here.

i want to get neons for the interior. only problem, they plug into the cig lighter. and i know you can just cut the transformer and just wire it to the battery or wat not. BUT, theres a on/off button on the transformer. so wat would i have to do to have it hooked to the battery/still have on/off switch?

Well, there is only 1 way to do it...

Run a wire from you battery/fusebox to a toggle switch in your car.

Chop off the end of the neon tube.

Strip each wire

Connect the positive wire to the "ACC" prong on the toggle switch

Connect the ground to the "Ground" prong on the switch/if you don't have a ground prong, then connect the ground wire to a ground.

You don't need to run wires to your battery....cut the cig adapter end off....hook the power to the back of your cig lighter.....ground the ground to a bolt under your center console or wherever....add a toggle switch on the power wire between your cig lighter and your neons...send me a private message if you need more help.

what bobbyd said..but you also don't have to cut the wires from the cig adaptor...just tap a wire in parallel to the wires that go to the cig adaptor.

oh yah i'm not sure how much current draw the neon rope takes but the max current that the cig lighter puts out is 10A....enough current but only to a certain point like don't hook up an auto heater that draws close to 10 amps and turn on your neon rope...the fuse might just go

Should not harm it at all...the devices you have hooked up to it draw very little power anyway.

bobbyd: Yeah true, but it is pulling a lot of power...

If I was you, I would just tap into the battery, it's not that hard...

by the sounds of it it doesn't draw a lot of power unless the neon rope draws so more than i have in mind...check the specs on the neon rope...the important detail is current...if the total is less than 10Amps then you should be fine
