High RPM Mods
Well, I did the search... maybe I didn't type the right keywords, but I didn't find anything about this.
What precautionary mods can I do to make my motor safer to run at higher RPM's. I used to be really afraid to bring it up past like 5k but now I go almost to redline, but the fear is still in the back of my mind.
Thanks.

i would say an exhaust system and header. those 2 bolt on exhaust mods are known to give better high end power while sacraficing a little low end. i would take an 4-2-1 header over 4-1 (which is the most common type for our cars) because it offers low-mid-high instead of the mid-high.
if you still fear from high revving and driving, definately dont go that far then. better to be safe than sorry. once you fail at some point, then lesson will be learn. but try to take it easy and learn the lesson before you make that mistake.

Hey, can you check out my thread in the Legal questions forum? Maybe you could help me out since you're a police officer. Thanks!

You know that the red line is the manufactures best guess at when the engine will begine to become unstable right? There is no real way of telling when or if your engines going to go, but there are lots of things you can do. just going to caust some money. A lot of what harms the engine is vibrations from the engine. Not everything is truely ballanced, so there will always be vibrations in it. yeah you could throw a block brace in it, sleeve it, or you can *i forget what its called, but you bassically tap some bolts threw your block and screw them in to reinforce the sleeves* . Balancing your crank is a good way to get rid of these vibrations as well. The manufactures bassically get it ballance within a certain range and call it good. Stonger pistons and rods that are also balanced. Cams will produce as much power as you want them to, and take you to a higher rpm range if you want them to, but you engine has to be able to handle it. So theoretically if you did the right things to your engine *being that its a sohc* i would guestimate that you would be able to get your car to rev to about 10,000 rpm if you really wanted to.
I know your probably just looking for the cheep solution out, but there really is none, if your going to tune your car, you might as well tune it right. Dont go with the flow and bolt things up that are going to give you a headache down the road *such as a turbo thats your going to have to rebuild your engine at 100,000 if that.* My advice to you now, drive it like you stole it. Save your money and do it right.

1) learn to shift better, blowing a shift at redline isn't good
2) shift at 6500 RPMs, that's where the power stops anyway
3)get a 600cc sportbike and you can shift at 10K
