Dash Lights

I have a 93 Honda Civic EX that I just purchased the dash light did not work. While i doing some testing I dicovered that when I removed the switch on the dash that dims the dash light it started working. Well i thought it was just a bad connection and i clean it and put it back together, but the next time i tryed to use them they would not work so I push in on the roller part of the dimmer switch and the lights started working again so i went to the junk yard to get another switch because i figured the switch was bad, well it work go for a couple of day's and it doing the same again, has anyone else had this promblem because I hate to go and buy a $100.00 switch from the dealer and that not be the promblem.

Could be a bad connection at the plug for the dimmer.

Maybe you could take the control and the harness/plug out to isolate which part is defective.

Online parts sources are much cheaper than the dealer, ( I could not locate your part though, any part #s available ?)

try jiggling the wires off the back of the switch make sure you have a good connection, and to make sure the wire isnt broken inside.

Just leave the switch out, who needs to dim their dash lights?

It will not work without the dimmer. I have no part number there is no number listed on the part.I have check the connection on the back of the switch and no bad or loose connection. There are three wire on the plug one red/black a black and red.I have found out today when i check with a test light on the plug thet when the dash lights work the red/black wire is the only wire that has power but when they dont work the red wire also has power. I called Honda the other day and there is a control on the back of the panel for dash light I just wondering if that could be causing the promblem.

Does it illumanate or is it always bright? Reason beaing, you might want to check and make sure that the illumanation isnt grounding out or anything there.

When it works you can use the dimmer switch the way it's suppose to work. I looked at the wire and I cannot see a place were it its grounded out.

like you say it goes on and off right? well those wire got to a control unit, the radio and other lights in the car are supposed to dim when you turn on the head lights. behind the raido there is one wire that you normaly would conect to the raido thats of those colors you were saying red and black i think.. but it could be shorting it, just a thought
